GLMFAA1 Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 A question to Mustang know it alls: Was the Mustang fast back (first generation) available with six cylinders or did they only get V 8s? greg
ToyLvr Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 I had a friend who had one back in the day, but I cannot say for sure if it came from the factory with the six-banger.
rel14 Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 Yes, you could get a fastback with a 6 cylinder, But the V8 was the most popular by far.
Maindrian Pace Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 Yes, all generations of fastback were available with six cylinders. -MJS
oldcarfan Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 You could get any body style with either a 6 or 8. Depended on how much money you had....
62rebel Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 v8's were in such high demand for the regular car lines, Mustangs predominately came with sixes until production ramped up on the smallblocks. remember; Mustangs weren't Ford's bread and butter cars. that being said; many more Mustangs now HAVE v8's than Ford ever installed in them.... same as with Camaros, Barracudas and Challengers. more v8's than factory sixes now by far.
Sport Suburban Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 Yes you could get a fastback Mustang with the inline 6. Many were made and as a side note all 6 cylinder mustangs had 4 lug wheels in the first few years. If you got the GT package you got a base 289 V8. If you wanted the 271 HP K code 289 you paid for that too.

The base v8 was the C code 2 barrel 289
Sport Suburban Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 Thanks for clearing that up. When I was reading up on the GT package it only talked about the two 289 engines available.
Jantrix Posted March 12, 2014 Posted March 12, 2014 (edited) Okay now that we have that established - is there any kit that offers a Ford inline that would be appropriate in a Mustang model? We were just talking about this last night at my model club meeting. Edited March 12, 2014 by Jantrix
