Dragfreak Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 (edited) For the past few months I've been in a funk with no desire to build so I pulled out a fresh kit, the revell '79 Camaro 2 n' 1 and started tinkering around. Igot the idea to build a drag car squatted down with the suspension travel in the front all the way out till its just about to yank the fronts. I yarded an Ls1 from a newer Camaro and some Weld Alumastars that a fellow builder sent to me on some Mickey Thomson sportmanson the rear and ET fronts in the front. I got inspired and started working away. Body work is one of my weak points but I took the stock flat hood with the supercharger hole cut in it and started scratch building a 4" cowl hood. I have attempted this before and failed miserably but I wasn't going to stop, I chugged away and got something very presentable! then, heading out to our shop to throw hopefully the final coat of primer on it, I was heading down the hallway and the hood took a suicide jump from my hand to the floor where I stepped on it... Broke it right in half, and after a few choice words later I took some pictures and tossed it on the bench so later I will decide if I will just use the z28 hood and throw the failure away or something else. Rant over, here's some pictures. Edited March 16, 2014 by Dragfreak
cobraman Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 That's a shame. Put a listing for one in the "wanted" section. Maybe someone here can help you out.
Tom Geiger Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 It's like when I roll back from the bench in my chair and hear a crunch. Yea, I've run over essential parts with my bench chair. The hood doesn't look too bad. Most of the break is under the scoop. Walk away long enough to stop seeing red. Then take a deep breath, sit down and fix the sucker.

Agreed Some bondo and a bunch of sanding... good as new!

I broke the back half of a tail gate the other night and it was painted ah cleared. You still have the model. You could fix the hood, build another or pick one up on ebay. You still have the project going hang in there.
disabled modeler Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 Sorry to hear that Jason...I have had more bad luck over the past 6 months than I thought I could handle myself...home broke into-model room burglarized and loads of damage to what is still here...then health problems, etc. I feel for you bud....wish I had another hood for you but don't...otherwise it would be yours. Keep at it the build was looking pretty cool to me.
PappyD340 Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 That's a bummer Jason, hang in there it will work out!!
Psychographic Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 Gluing that back together is no more work than putting two two engine halves together. Why not fix what you have?
Dragfreak Posted March 16, 2014 Author Posted March 16, 2014 It's not that I don't think I could fix it, I just suck at bodywork and paint. All I'm truly good at is scratch building and chassis work so getting my first success in the my weak point then it getting broke just I guess plain sucks. While it dampened my spirits I'll go and see if I can try not to destroy it any more and make it look okay.

The more bodywork you do the easier it gets. Pretty soon you'll be saying to yourself, why did I ever worry about doing it.
Greg Myers Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 Gluing that back together is no more work than putting two two engine halves together. Why not fix what you have? That's what I was thinking. What? Did you run out of glue ?
Dragfreak Posted March 17, 2014 Author Posted March 17, 2014 (edited) That's what I was thinking. What? Did you run out of glue ? I should been more clear Greg, my bad. The point of this post wasn't that I couldn't glue it together It's body work isn't one of my strong points so being successful then losing all the hard work was just very unlucky and agrivating. I am back at it trying to fill the gap. Edited March 17, 2014 by Dragfreak
Greg Myers Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 But it does look good. You are good at it. Finish er off.
