Austin T Posted April 18, 2014 Posted April 18, 2014 (edited) Just noticed that the 29' ford looks strikingly similar to the highly sought after "Blue Beetle" kit, even bears a similar name. Do you think they may restore some of the parts back to that issue? *Just saw your post on the other thread Casey, lol. I guess great minds think alike. Edited April 18, 2014 by Austin T

The Blue Beetle parts will be restored for the upcoming Blue Bandito.
Rob Hall Posted April 18, 2014 Posted April 18, 2014 (edited) Blue Bandito...hmm...how about Blue Burrito. Not familiar w/ the Blue Beetle..are there many differences between the original version and the later Monogram '29 Ford pickups (I see the different wheels and tires) ? Dennis Lacy Posted April 18, 2014 Posted April 18, 2014 Blue Bandito...hmm...how about Blue Burrito. Not familiar w/ the Blue Beetle..are there many differences between the original version and the later Monogram '29 Ford pickups (I see the different wheels and tires) ? Yeah, quite a few things different on the Blue Beetle version: - solid and 5-spoke mag wheels (vs. generic slotted 70's wheels) - whitewall front bias-ply tires and M&H slicks (vs. ugly 70's wide tires) - early Ford style brake plates (vs. flat finned) - Cadillac script valve covers (vs. finned) - 6 carburetor intake (vs. tunnel ram with 4-bbl's) - pleated firewall (vs. plain) - pleated bucket seats (vs. bench) - roll bar (vs. nothing)
Greg Myers Posted April 20, 2014 Posted April 20, 2014 Why do you supose they changed the name on the "Blue Beetle" ?
Rob Hall Posted April 20, 2014 Posted April 20, 2014 Why do you supose they changed the name on the "Blue Beetle" ? Probably licensing...'Beetle' is a registered trademark of Volkswagen.
rasafyff Posted April 21, 2014 Posted April 21, 2014 I'm wondering what color they'll mold the kit.A problem with the original issue was the interior was molded in white and the bucket seats were molded in blue.
mnwildpunk Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 Is this based off an actual custom from that time period?
ZIL 111V Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 Good news... Looks way better then the Yellow '73 "Early Iron" series & later Silver 80's/90's reissues.
Pete L. Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 Fellas, Any updates on the Blue Bandito/Beetle ???
Brett Barrow Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 Fellas, Any updates on the Blue Bandito/Beetle ??? Pushed back to next month. Was originally on the list for this month.
Pete L. Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 Fellas, From the looks of the box art ALL of the old parts have been restored to the Blue Bandito/Beetle !!! :D
jbwelda Posted October 2, 2014 Posted October 2, 2014 all except the Cadillac valve covers (and the name) from what I understand. jb
Pete L. Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 Fellas, Has anyone seen the "Blue Bandito" kit on store shelves yet ?
mrknowetall Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 The hobby shops signed up for the RPP program should have theirs very soon. I'm thinking next week.
bpletcher55 Posted October 18, 2014 Posted October 18, 2014 if this has the same parts as the [blue beetle ] i,ll be buying a few of them ,
Greg Pugh Posted October 19, 2014 Posted October 19, 2014 Like....scuba gear and all??!! If so, color me excited!!!
Matt T. Posted October 22, 2014 Posted October 22, 2014 GMS has one on eBay. From what I can see in the photo, the box side looks to have a picture of the truck with surfboard in the bed and scuba accessories laid out on the ground next to it. Also appears to have an optional tonneau cover for the bed. Stoke!
mnwildpunk Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 As I have heard it will have everything that originally came with it scuba gear, surfboard and swim mask stuff like that
Dave Toups Posted October 25, 2014 Posted October 25, 2014 According to Ed Sexton, it's supposed to be identical to the original except for the "Cadillac" lettering on the valve covers. He also said it would be molded in blue, but probably not the original shade of blue. I hope the parts that were molded in white in the original kit still are. I didn't think to ask him. Replicas and Miniatures Co of MD. offers resin copies of the original valve covers if anyone wants to make a 100% authentic version
