I never seem to find pictures I need for a build. I'm currently trying to find pictures of a 1st generation Corvette with the doors open so I can see how the jambs are shaped. I'm not having much luck.

Where do you search when you're researching for a stock build?

Cheers Don.

I have had the best luck on Ebay motors. Something like a Corvette will come up and they load up the auctions with tons of photos, especially if it is a high buck car. I have been surprised by the amount of great reference photos I have found there. Some auctions even have under car photos. It may take a bit of time to fins everything you need but you will. Good luck!

Interior, and undercarriage shots are very hard to come by for almost any car. Just have to be patient. Find a forum of 1:1 Corvette owners, find someone who owns one and ask politely if that person can take some reference shots for you. I have done this before with some success.

I found the examples I posted above in less than three minutes. I'm positive that if I spent more time, I'd find many more.

Thanks Harry.

What did you type into Google to find those pics? I tried 1953 Corvette interior, 1953 Corvette doors open, and 1953 Corvette door jambs among others. The best I found was a 1/18 scale diecast.

I tried 1953 Corvette interior, no jambs found... so I tried 1955 Corvette interior, and there it was.

my key word is "restoration" plenty of shops out there that take detailed pictures of their restorations. also is a Barns and Nobles, or some sort of large book store. they usually have a good automotive section with lots of specialty books on your subject. i have build a fairly good library going to flea markets and garage sales also.

Bing images is another excellent source. You don't get the exact same stuff you get on google, it loads faster on older computers because there's not quite so much data mining going on in the background, and it's not so heavily weighted towards advertisers...yet.

Imaginative key-word use can be very useful too. Computers are still semantically challenged, and a lot of posters are spelling challenged. The search engine has no idea what you're looking for because AI doesn't really understand language...yet...(IBM's "Watson" the possible exception) and it doesn't understand that "door jam" means the same thing as "door jamb", or that "door open" has anything to do with anything.

You have to try think about what the person who put the picture on the internet MIGHT have had in his mind when he posted it, and what possible keywords might be attached to the post. Sometimes to find the result you need, you have to think like an idiot.

I have one to add to the list - I always check RK Motors Charlotte for reference pics. They usually have extensive photo coverage of the cars they have for sale (usually with underside pics) , and they keep those pages up even after they sell the cars.

they used to be up Ohio way, charged $10 to get in. he considered is a museum, I guess. they do have a ton of picts on their cars.

For sports cars, race cars and classics, heavily European, one of the best sources is fantasyjunction.com. Check out both inventory and cars sold. They post large amounts of crisp, highly detailed images for each car, inside-out, top-to-bottom.

This 1967 Shelby Cobra is a typical example:
