We have reached an agreement with the family of Bob Peeples wherein the Moonlight Modelers Club will acquire his legendary unfinished Cobra CSX project with all its unassembled components and reference material.

They have withdrawn the model from sale.

The International Model Car Builder's Museum has expressed enthusiastic desire to receive and display the project as a demonstration of super-detailing that can be accomplished, even in 1/25 scale.

We do not intend to complete the model. It will be displayed as the in-progress build it was, amid its unassembled components and research material. Once we acquire the model, we will be working with the museum to prepare an appropriate exhibit platform.

We intend to make the formal presentation of the exhibit to the museum next May at the 25th GSL.

Donations to help fund the acquisition and the exhibit can be made directly to the museum and will therefore be tax deductible as 501-C3 charitable contributions. Donors will be provided receipt certificates. The proceeds of the acquisition contributions will be distributed to Bob's family through the museum.

Here are a couple of work-in-progress photos from Bob's workbench as he was crafting the most accurate Cobra Daytona model ever. His research was relentless, including a trip to the home of the actual car he was replicating. Bob was invited to visit the owner's private collection and had unlimited access to the actual car for reference measurements, photographs, and inhalation of the aura.

Dan, sounds like a great project, One thing before anyone glues that together, that manifold/carb setup is part of a Ford 427 FE engine. The Daytona Coupe was never run with a big block. It only ran with a 289 with 4 Weber downdrafts. I don't know if Bob was planning on cramming a 427 in that or not but that manifold is not for a Daytona Coupe engine.

That could well be it, Len. Bob loved him some Cobras!

When he passed, he was found to have arguably one of the largest Cobra kit and modelbilia collections known to man!

I'll send my donation tonight. I hope to visit GSLMCC and the museum one day.

Lee,

The museum does not have Paypal capability and there is no special Paypal account set up for this.

Sorry.

So is the model still on display?  I'm still thinking a 3D image of the major components would not be a crazy idea given the new molding technologies.  It makes even more sense since his Cobra's were is basically in kit form and it's not destroying a built project just to make scans.

I know the thread was started a long time ago.  Are the unfinished models (works of art) still in the museum?

To answer the question from Rex, yes. The models are on display at the museum.

The work Bob performed was artistry. There will be no cloning of them, either by 3D printing or by casting, etc.

To Dan:  Yeah, you really have to see it!

I have to go into that link - but knowing Russell, the photos are going to be amazing!

They are! Not mine, however, they are @tim boyd's visit to the Museum a decade ago, but the place hasn't changed much, apart from new acuisitions.

Here's Dale Angel's video from 2015:

Dale Angel's video is terrific. Thanks for posting it, Russell!

NOTE TO EVERYONE:  The Bob Peeples Cobra projects are prominently viewed in this view - they are the three partial builds displayed on round pedestal platforms. Check them out. They are 90% scratchbuilt - starting with kit parts consisting of bodies (before accurizing) and engine blocks.
