tbill Posted May 17, 2014 Posted May 17, 2014 well, I cracked open the prostar and a 53 foot trailer today. so far, I am loving it. zero flash, and awesome molding. i now truly understand what you guys have been saying about these kits. my little bit of progress so far, in white primer, i think i am going with Inca Gold on this. will probably do the trailer in white, but who knows, i tend to like to have color matched rig/trailer
Petetrucker07 Posted May 18, 2014 Posted May 18, 2014 Lookin good man. The moebious kits are amazing, highly detailed, a far, far cry from amt. i really like that color. Lookin forward to seein more!
tbill Posted May 18, 2014 Author Posted May 18, 2014 I think she's gonna buff out nice, will probably start on the chassis/motor this week as time allows.....
Petetrucker07 Posted May 18, 2014 Posted May 18, 2014 Thats gonna look ridiculous, in a very good way. I can only hope mine comes out lookin that good
Tesla Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 You're off to a great start with the color choice...looks nice Tom!
mackinac359 Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 When it comes time to set the cab on the frame, you have to bring the cab in like you are landing a plane, but with the nose down. If you try to set it straight down, the floor fouls out with the back of the engine and nothing will line up. Tim
Bennyg Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 Looking good. Love the colour. I've got one in progress at the moment. Can't seem to post pics on this site though. It can be seen on ozautobuilders.com. I found the separate cab roof needed to be sanded in order to line up with the cab. Also when building the chassis, the cab mounts should be checked with th floor pan to ensure the cab mounts are even. Have fun. Cheers. Ben
Steven1 Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 May I suggest a 1/4 or 1/2 inch Inga gold stripe down the side of the trailer ? With the truck it will really sharp.
tbill Posted May 19, 2014 Author Posted May 19, 2014 thanks for the comments and especially the tips guys, much appreciated Steve, ya know, i have been giving that some thought, i have some old paint masks from my r/c days, was thinking of maybe using some of those on the trailer side to integrate some Inca gold into the trailer, just something subtle to tie it together, and maybe use the 'swoosh' stripes in the rig kit somehow as well to tie the colors in. time will tell............
kilrathy10 Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 Definitely a good color choice.....I like that....Nice sized paint booth, too....I need to build a mega sized paint booth, myself....One big enough to paint a 53' trailer..... And, everybody is spot on about the marriage....You will have to fudge it in there, but the biggest thing is getting it to sit level....You can raise the rear cab mounts about 2mm higher and it ought to be ok.....Good luck on this one....Can't wait to see what you come up with....
Madd Trucker Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 dont know what happed onmy post but trys again lookin good so far Tom the gold looks good on it
tbill Posted May 21, 2014 Author Posted May 21, 2014 got most of the interior parts painted and two toned, and I stole JT's roof cutting idea as well [no sense in hiding that interior] I am thinking maybe tomorrow I will start the motor/chassis so I can get most of the big stuff painted. still working on coming up with a paint scheme for the trailer.......
kilrathy10 Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 Great job on the cut.....Glad you agree that interior must be seen.....Thanks for the props, Man.....I like the gray 2 tone you picked for it.....Looking very nice.....
Custom Hearse Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 That's going to be a really cool looking build Tom! The color is outstanding! Can't wait to see what you do on the trailer!!!
Tesla Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 I'm glad you chose to cut the roof...nice interior colors.
slusher Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 Love the color Tom, looks great in the outside picture.
tbill Posted May 22, 2014 Author Posted May 22, 2014 thanks guys still racking my brain to figure out what to do with the trailer color scheme. having said that, if you have any ideas, feel free to throw them out there, kinda stumped at the momment.........
