chunkypeanutbutter Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 Thinking of taking this Maisto Squareback and making a replica of my poor old '73 :,(
hedotwo Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 I owned two Fastbacks... A '66 and a 69'. I really'd love to model one of them someday.
chunkypeanutbutter Posted June 18, 2014 Author Posted June 18, 2014 We never had a fastback. We have the 73 and 71 Squares, we had two Buses, and now we have a convertible Beetle. There was a time when we had eight Vanagons in the driveway.
JTalmage Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 There's a guy just over near me who's a VW hoarder. he's got a garage full of em.. and since theyre small he has quite a few! 2 squarebacks, buggy body, some bug's, and I think one fastback. Has his newer ones sitting outside, like old jetta's and whatnot.
chunkypeanutbutter Posted June 18, 2014 Author Posted June 18, 2014 VWs are bulletproof in the right hands. Some people don't understand cars and mistreat them. Otherwise they are total troopers, and easily fixed on the side of the road.
JTalmage Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 (edited) Ha, speaking of mistreating them... my old instructor in school was in to VW's many, many years ago and so was the rest of his family, and they had dozens. And for fun they would skip bugs over a pond at high speeds! Edited June 18, 2014 by JTalmage
Dale W. Verts Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 If it could be done with a Bug, I probably did it. Good luck on the model! Dale
Dale W. Verts Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 Just thinkin'... With the renewed popularity of the Mini-Cooper, don't ya'll think a modernized Volkswagen Squareback would go over pretty good? Dale
ningoth4 Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 I have that same model. I was thinking of eventually doing a Type 3 with the top cut off. One of my VW customizing buddies built a couple of those. Kevin
chunkypeanutbutter Posted June 19, 2014 Author Posted June 19, 2014 Look at this wicked Fastback with a mustang roof \m/
Tom Geiger Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 (edited) Per the Maisto Squareback... go for it. Diecast is just a model in a different material. Take it apart and do what you will with it. I'm happy they did these and the notchback too since we didn't have them in plastic. My mechanic is a VW guy. He'll fix anything, but his passion is air cooled VWs. It's pretty much an old time shade tree mechanic kind of place. In the right bay there's a frame off Oval resto going on all year. Yea, they work on cars out in the cold and rain because that project takes up two bays of the garage. Edited June 19, 2014 by Tom Geiger
DaytonaTim Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 Just a peek at something closely related that is being worked on in the TDR Skunk Works.
