Tony N Posted June 23, 2014 Posted June 23, 2014 Hi, I am adding another Ford Wagon Glue Bomb to the mix. Since the other wagon has wood panels on it, I thought I would post my build now since I am going in a different direction. I bought mine at the last NNL West. I think I paid to much for it, but I just love old wagons. The chrome wheels didn't come with it. They are from the Revel 49 Merc kit, The wheels and tires that came with it were just to small for the Wagon. I am shooting for a early 60's Surf feel to it, with metal flake paint done in a two tone and wheels and tires from that era.
Tony N Posted June 23, 2014 Author Posted June 23, 2014 I am going to use the AMT 60 Ford Starliner kit for the better fame and seats. Hopefully I can get the parts to work together since I think they are different scales.
Tony N Posted June 23, 2014 Author Posted June 23, 2014 The Frame looks a little short but I think it will work. I am also going to open up the Hood, so I can add the engine from the AMT.
Tony N Posted June 23, 2014 Author Posted June 23, 2014 I cut out the hood, man the plastic was really thick. But lines for the opening were easy to follow. I guess there is no going back now. were deep to start with so It was easy to follow.
Tony N Posted June 23, 2014 Author Posted June 23, 2014 I also found on the net, Old ford wagon ads. I am going to use them to make it look like it would in the early 60s or at least as close as I can. But it is going to become Ranch Wagon, to much glue on it to save the trim.
Duntov Posted June 23, 2014 Posted June 23, 2014 Glad that you decided to save this very worthy old car --- keep us up to date on your progress -- I t looks good so far!!!
1 bad55 stan Posted June 23, 2014 Posted June 23, 2014 i'm liking this, those chrome wheels in the first photo are pretty cool, are you going to use them?I just love wagons,i might have to get my impala back out and finish it...
Ron Hamilton Posted June 23, 2014 Posted June 23, 2014 Welcome to the jungle Tony. I like what I see. I have considered using the "new tool"' AMT '60 Starliner for the chassis and running gear, but I wanted to do a "Slump Buster" curbside out of mine. Your car looks good so far. It's a shame about those rear fenders. Mine were glue-burned all the way through the plastic. Can you save the ribbed detail? Good luck on your build.
Danno Posted June 23, 2014 Posted June 23, 2014 Love those old Hubley wagons. Glad to see you guys rescuing them!
charlie8575 Posted June 23, 2014 Posted June 23, 2014 I remember reading the Hubleys are 1/24, instead of 1/25, which will account for the slight difference. Interesting project. Charlie Larkin
Tony N Posted June 24, 2014 Author Posted June 24, 2014 Thanks; everyone for the kinds words and prep talk on finishing it. It's going to be slow, I only have time to work on models on the weekends. Tony
Ron Hamilton Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 Keep it up Tony. I a going tto tweak the stance on mine, and I want to change the tires too.
ChrisBcritter Posted June 25, 2014 Posted June 25, 2014 Thanks for posting all this info, Tony - I've been wondering how far off the AMT Ford chassis was; looks doable. I do have the chrome ribbed quarter panel pieces from my '61 I'm not using; wonder if you can make them work? And Ron - I'm sorry but I haven't found that roof rack. I thought for sure it was in the '61's box but it wasn't.
Tony N Posted June 25, 2014 Author Posted June 25, 2014 Chris thanks for the offer, I am going for a clean smooth look. Also its to late, I have already sanded of all the side trim. I am going for something like this, without the skirts. Tony

GLMFAA1 Posted June 25, 2014 Posted June 25, 2014 I hope you realize you are mixing Hubley 1/24 scale and AMT 1/25th scale so both might be off, On the rear roll pand chrome you might find evergreen ribbed siding with right size ribbing to make a piece They are fun models, awaiting your finish greg
