martinfan5 Posted July 19, 2014 Author Posted July 19, 2014 Nice progress. Great paint and finish on both... Thank you Carl I should mention the paint I used Bandits T/A, Model Master Lacquer line, decanted, with two coats of Wet Look Clear General Lee, Model Master Lacquer line, Hugger Orange over grey primer, decanted, two coats Wet Look Clear, wet sanded and polished
slusher Posted July 19, 2014 Posted July 19, 2014 You nailed them both. Perfect shade of orange, I need to remember that when I build another General..
martinfan5 Posted July 19, 2014 Author Posted July 19, 2014 You nailed them both. Perfect shade of orange, I need to remember that when I build another General.. Hugger Orange is in fact one of the colors they used on the show, that and Flame Red Disclaimer I am not trying to build the most accurate General Lee ever, or replicate a certain version of the General, I just happened to have the most of Hugger Orange on hand, which turned out to be good thing, as I had to strip it the body and start over
Brett Barrow Posted July 19, 2014 Posted July 19, 2014 Those are looking really good. I don't recall (not a GM joke, I swear) seeing the Revell die-cast to plastic Bandit built up yet. Speaking of 75 Corvette Flame Red, it's a funny color, it's orangier than a lot of colors named "orange". Don't think I've ever seen it next to Hugger Orange (which was Carosel Red on Pontiacs), but I have seen it next to Hemi Orange (which was Tor Red on Plymouths) and it's noticeably orangier than that. In 1976 they renamed it "Orange Flame".

In 1976 they renamed it "Orange Flame". That would of been a good one though Brett See, I thought , and now of course, colors look different in person vs photographs, but to me , Flame Red looked more red than orange, but that was another one of the colors the show use was Flame Red, I believe Hemi Orange is the only one that you mentioned is a metallic , but I could be wrong. I think I might get a can of MM lacquer Flame Red and give it try and see for myself. On to the T/A kit, its been decent a build , pretty much straight forward, the only fit issues I have ran into is the nose piece, and once you have the three parts in place (trim, clear lense, chrome backing) , the fit to the body isnt perfect like it is without those parts installed. Now the detail, yes, there is a lot of that lacking, I had to glue the metal pins to the chassis for the front tires as it was very lose fit, and they would not stay in on there own. The one that I do like about this one vs the Monogram kit, is the tail lights, so much better, and look a lot more realistic then the Monogram kit. And I have to also say a plus to the decals, while they are your typical kit decals, all the gold striping went on without any issues, and using some mirco set made it even easier. I will get some more pics posted of the T/A soon Edited July 19, 2014 by martinfan5
Brett Barrow Posted July 19, 2014 Posted July 19, 2014 The MM GM Flame Red is the mid-60's color. It's a true red. Something's screwy with my tablet right now and I can't get any of the icons to post links or photos to show, or I'd post a couple examples. Go to paintref.com and search Flame Red and you'll see 1975 Corvette Flame Red in the results sticking out like a sore thumb. They have example photos of cars painted in it, too. Hemi Orange is a metallic, but just barely noticeable in 1:1. I'm not sure the MM even has flake in it. I have a can but I don't think I've used it yet.
martinfan5 Posted July 19, 2014 Author Posted July 19, 2014 (edited) I will check out the site and take a look for myself, thanks for posting that, there is some flake in the MM HO, its very hard to notice though, its one of those under certain light/angles does it become really noticeable . Here you go, MM Hemi Orange decanted, you can see how the flakes look Edited July 19, 2014 by martinfan5
freakshow12 Posted July 19, 2014 Posted July 19, 2014 I have the dupli color hemi orange engine paint and it's full of gold / silver flake. News to me! Lol

Your doing a great job on these builds. Love the paint and finish on both...
Brett Barrow Posted July 19, 2014 Posted July 19, 2014 I have the dupli color hemi orange engine paint and it's full of gold / silver flake. News to me! Lol Hemi Orange Engine paint and V2 Hemi Orange/Tor Red are not the same. V2 has a little flake in it, but it really only shows in bright sunlight. It's not what I would classify as a "metallic" by today's standards.

Subtle and fine flake but it is there
MoparWoman Jamie Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 The roll bar in the real cars was contoured to the car sides mean it was slightly bent at the base of the side windows tilted inwards to the inside of the charger roof where it was then ran across the back area of the front seats interior roof area. BTW, great job on the projects so far! I love both of them.

Jonathan's models are now in the Under Glass section, BTW. They look great! http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=91783
Dominik Posted July 22, 2014 Posted July 22, 2014 Saw both in the Under Glass Section - they look great! Thanks everybody explain the colors they used in the show.
crowe-t Posted August 3, 2014 Posted August 3, 2014 Excellent work on these 2 cars! They are favorites of mine.
rrenz Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 (edited) The Bandit kit is a great model. One of my best to date. Great detail and is really engineered well. Edited August 8, 2014 by rrenz
