Mr mopar Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 http://round2models.com/models/amt/mercury-chrome-sleeper The Cats at AMT are giving us a Chrome 1969 Mercury Sleeper # AMTPP012. this is real cool!
unclescott58 Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 What truck kits was this sleeper specifically designed to fit with? Scott
Mr mopar Posted July 11, 2014 Author Posted July 11, 2014 Diamond REO, White Western star, also would work on the reissued Peterbilt 359 .
Dave Van Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 Kinda figured we'd get a sleeper kit of some kind. Wonder if they will 'find' the Pete sleeper for a rerun of the 2nd edition of the Pete???? Kool idea anyway.
Jim B Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 No, this is not a Peterbilt sleeper. Mercury sleepers were aftermarket sleepers. They were added to just about any make (Peterbilt, Kenworth, White, Diamond REO, etc.)
Mr mopar Posted July 11, 2014 Author Posted July 11, 2014 That would be cool if they did the Peterbilt sleeper along with the old Sunvisor.
Petetrucker07 Posted July 12, 2014 Posted July 12, 2014 Yes the visor even if its not chrome would be nice.

Mr mopar Posted July 12, 2014 Author Posted July 12, 2014 Thanks Mark good article on the Mercury sleepers......................... Today I put my order in at my LHS for a few of them.
foosh Posted July 13, 2014 Posted July 13, 2014 Just received a 351 hood conversion from AITM, really nice casting. Dave does not have it listed on his web site but it is HC-351. Includes hood, fenders headlights and brackets, optional bug screen and two bumpers. Going to build one of the Petes into an early '60's 351. Aitm is on vacation until July 21.
Petetrucker07 Posted July 13, 2014 Posted July 13, 2014 Thanks for the info. I need to get a physical catalogue, really like to see what all AITM has to offer
Mackvision Posted July 13, 2014 Posted July 13, 2014 Very nice! as already stated,Mercury's were aftermarket sleepers that could be ordered to fit most any truck,They were built in California,so were more popular out west (Petes KW's Western Stars etc.) but ended up on most every make and model of truck produced. Vintage Mercury's command big bucks for those restoring 1:1 trucks these days,as they were well made and pretty neat looking too!................................Mark
Force Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 (edited) Kinda figured we'd get a sleeper kit of some kind. Wonder if they will 'find' the Pete sleeper for a rerun of the 2nd edition of the Pete???? Kool idea anyway. As far as I have heard the original sleeper for the second issue of the 359 small window Pete is altered and not usable. But AITM has the original sleeper, it's marked as 36 inch Restrite Sleeper on the website. A chromed Mercury Sleeper is a cool choise, many polished them out. Edited July 14, 2014 by Force
ZIL 111V Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 Just great!!!Another great Round2 product. Will look absolutely stunning behind the 359...and all other conventional kits.
Dave Van Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 I still have As far as I have heard the original sleeper for the second issue of the 359 small window Pete is altered and not usable. But AITM has the original sleeper, it's marked as 36 inch Restrite Sleeper on the website. I still have a mint Pete sleeper as I used my kit to build Phil Jenson High Wide and Handsome from CM Mag.
Superpeterbilt Posted July 15, 2014 Posted July 15, 2014 Whaaaa!!!!! The California Hauler re-issue and now a chrome Mercury!! This has to be the best year for scale truckers. This is one of the coolest things ever!!( in truck modeling)
redneckrodder Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 I agree its been a pretty good year but something that would make it better is a revell k100 reissue
Chuck Most Posted July 21, 2014 Posted July 21, 2014 I typically build day cabs, but even so I might pick up a couple of these.
72 Charger Posted August 24, 2014 Posted August 24, 2014 Does anyone know how I can get some of these chrome sleepers in the UK?
Chuck Most Posted August 24, 2014 Posted August 24, 2014 They aren't out yet, but once they're available you should be able to order them through Auto World.
