Bob Ellis Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 This convertible kit is a great kit. It became a Trophy Series kit in 1967. I have never built the original, but I built the re-issue from 1967. I have to think Round2 may have it because I am sure AMT never modified it in the '70s. Maybe somebody knows? A very nice job. Maybe you will get me to build one too.
smellyfatdude Posted July 23, 2014 Author Posted July 23, 2014 Thanks again, everyone. The wheels/tires will be stock, but with the newer parts from the re-issue. Got the bumpers cleaned up, and sprayed with Duplicolor black primer. When we get a day that the wind's not howling, I'll throw on a few coats of Tamiya clear, then shoot some Alclad on them.
DynoMight Posted July 24, 2014 Posted July 24, 2014 Wow! Did you lower the car at all? That's a nice stance!
John Goschke Posted July 24, 2014 Posted July 24, 2014 Coming along nicely! Very attractive color combo.
smellyfatdude Posted July 24, 2014 Author Posted July 24, 2014 Thanks, and Dyno that's how it sits with the axles in the standard position. I think you're just seeing fluffy towel effect, Neither of the trash cans are level (or clean!), but you can see it's pretty much dead on stock position. I could lower it, but it's not going to be crusing east L.A., and there's too many darned potholes around here to be dropping it down any, Today sucks for painting, warm and no wind but it's way too humid, thanks to the recent thundershowers. So I'll maybe clean the red paint off these tires, and use the blue craft paint I bought to fix them up. Maybe tomorrow, I can get some interior work done.
66belair Posted July 26, 2014 Posted July 26, 2014 Looking really nice, cars had great personalities up through the sixties.
charlie8575 Posted July 26, 2014 Posted July 26, 2014 That looks very nice, Darcy. Great colors on it, and a per-usual-for-you very nice build. Charlie Larkin
smellyfatdude Posted July 28, 2014 Author Posted July 28, 2014 Today was finally a decent day for painting outside, and there's no way I was going to waste it. I spent about two hours masking the interior, and about ten minutes painting it. All in all, it was time well spent. It'll need a wee bit of touching up, plus the flocking and detailing added, but at least the paint's on it. Also got the bumpers done. Half an hour after spraying them with Tamiya clear, I shot three coats of Alclad on them. They're not perfect, but they're definitely better than what I started with.
peekay Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 This is looking great. One of my favourite Fords and I have the kit too.
StevenGuthmiller Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 Looking good! I just picked up a restorable '61 Starliner hard top the other day myself. Steve
DynoMight Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 Interior colors will fit right in with the car and the Alcad is pretty good looking!
smellyfatdude Posted July 30, 2014 Author Posted July 30, 2014 Slow progress is better than no progress, so I'll settle for snail mode. The engine and chassis are now inseperable friends, and I also added the flocking, a.k.a. embossing powder. Turns out I had some Pacific Blue in a jar, so that made a color match pretty simple. The rest of the interior work will be foiling and painting, but at least once the wheels are detailed, the bottom half will be done.
1 bad55 stan Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 Thats looking sweet,Great color combo,Nice work...
smellyfatdude Posted August 4, 2014 Author Posted August 4, 2014 I managed to get black wash added to the wheels today, as well as touching up and foiling the interior. All that's left to do yet is the dash. I should be screwing this one up, literally, in a day or two.
Byron5150 Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 Good choice for the interior the blue will look good in it
DynoMight Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 Awesome job on this.. Can't wait to see it under glass.
smellyfatdude Posted August 4, 2014 Author Posted August 4, 2014 Can't wait to see it under glass. Thank you all, and Dyno that's probably closer than you think. The dash has been detailed, so the interior is 100% finished. The original kit wheel and column were melted from tire burn, so I used the ones from the promo re-issue. There was just enough left of the original shifter to save and use as a turn signal. I expect to finish this today, though whether or not I'll get everything done to the last detail in time for some pictures outdoors, I can't say. If not there should be some there, tomorrow. See you there!
