Chuck Most Posted August 11, 2014 Author Posted August 11, 2014 Ouch. Maybe PVC pipe? Can't rule that out as of now. Thing is, this was an incomplete kit, but I know it still had both fuel tanks when I started building it.
Guest Posted August 11, 2014 Posted August 11, 2014 Any PVC pipe (plumbing or electrical) with a 1 inch OD will do the trick. On the tanks that I've made I used .020 styrene for the end caps.
tbill Posted August 11, 2014 Posted August 11, 2014 Chuck, looks great so far. I bet you build a tank, and the other two will turn up right under your nose. or better yet, look for something else and you'll trip over the 'missing' tanks
Chuck Most Posted August 13, 2014 Author Posted August 13, 2014 That's exactly why I haven't looked for replacement tanks yet, or started making my own. Ten seconds after they're installed on the model, the AWOL kit tanks will magically fall from the ceiling over the workbench, if the past is any indication.
kilrathy10 Posted August 13, 2014 Posted August 13, 2014 Nice looking project.....The weathering looks pretty good.....Can't say I've ever seen this version modeled, before.....
Superpeterbilt Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 Im sure youll find your tanks, but if not let me know. I have plenty of DR kits, and I also cast a few tanks. I can hook you up. This truck would look cool with some square tanks, just my $0.02.
disabled modeler Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 Very cool.... I always liked the older trucks...looks great.
Chuck Most Posted September 10, 2014 Author Posted September 10, 2014 (edited) Well... bit the bullet and started working on some new tanks. I'm expecting the kit fuel tanks to appear at any moment now. Edited December 17, 2014 by Chuck Most
Scalper Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 looking cool.. like the work and the weathering.
Chuck Most Posted September 12, 2014 Author Posted September 12, 2014 Now I'm kind of messing with the idea of pulling off the deck plate and putting a winch back there. Hmmmmm....
redneckrodder Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 a winch would be cool then hook it up to the amt lowboy
Superpeterbilt Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 Now I'm kind of messing with the idea of pulling off the deck plate and putting a winch back there. Hmmmmm.... That idea reminds me of two short hood Autocars with winches in a book I have. That will look great. Go for it. Ill try to find the pics
Chuck Most Posted September 13, 2014 Author Posted September 13, 2014 AITM has a really nice Tulsa 50 ton winch, might be the way to go if I've got enough room between the cab and fifth wheel. http://www.aitruckmodels.com/pages/kt7tulsa50tonwinch.html
kilrathy10 Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 (edited) Great looking tanks, Man.....Just get the other ones out of your mind.....Think about what you can do with them on another project when they reappear next year..... Above, behind, under the work bench, or even in the shed where you put them down to grab that drink you left outside.....Been there....Done that..... Edited September 13, 2014 by kilrathy10
Superpeterbilt Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 Chuck, thats the winch Im using on my Brockway.
Chuck Most Posted September 16, 2014 Author Posted September 16, 2014 (edited) Fuel tanks are finished, and installed (at least temporarily for now). Battery boxes and air tanks will be added aft of the fuel tanks, once I get the exhaust routing figured out. I dropped the passenger's side tank after the last application of primer. I found the step that snapped off, but decided not to put it on. Because of the way the cab mounts are positioned on the chassis, this side won't quite fit square, but I liked how it looked so I decided to keep the "bent" looking tank. I might lower it a bit, though, so the cap will come off! (In theory, of course.) Edited December 17, 2014 by Chuck Most
Superpeterbilt Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 If the tank got bent on a 1:1, I think the owner would take a hammer to the bottom of the cab to get the cap off.I would heat it a push it in.
Guest Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 Looks good Chuck, I like Terry's idea as well
Jim B Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 Great looking Diamond Reo. I really like it with the short hood.
TRaymo Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 If it was my truck I'd straighten the tank mount out before taking a hammer to the cab!
Chuck Most Posted September 24, 2014 Author Posted September 24, 2014 I ended up adjusting the passenger's side tank a bit- the look of it being "tweaked" started to lose its charm after a bit. I also added the battery boxes. Treadplate was added to the top of the driver's side box- the passenger's side box will have a missing lid and exposed batteries.
Madd Trucker Posted September 27, 2014 Posted September 27, 2014 (edited) Iam no expert but wasntthe fuel tanks the other way around the filler caps towards the frontof the truck. your build still looks good Edited September 27, 2014 by Madd Trucker
Chuck Most Posted October 1, 2014 Author Posted October 1, 2014 (edited) I've seen the filler caps both ways, so I just went with the fillers toward the back like it shows on the instruction sheet. Most of the C90 and C92s I have seen tended to have the front- mounted fillers though. Shouldn't be hard to switch the tanks if it starts to bother me. Edited October 1, 2014 by Chuck Most
