lou s Posted July 17, 2014 Author Posted July 17, 2014 (edited) Here are some pics of a mock up I was messing around with a few months ago.i took the cage from a firebird kit because the scale of the cage looked a lot closer to scale than the cage in the Camaro kit.the cage in the Camaro kit look a lot thiner.i also widened the cage buy moving it out to the edge of the body so it contoured to the inside of the body better.the set pins for the kit cage is to narrow.after I get the look im after ill build one from evergreen. 1 bad55 stan Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 Nice!I will be watching your progress on this..
lou s Posted July 18, 2014 Author Posted July 18, 2014 (edited) here some pics of the kit rear tires as they come and after they are sanded down.a little trick I learned from dave t.Untouched tire to the left.the right side tire has the sidewall sanded.they also have the kit drag light rims in them.i will be using micro nitro aluminum drag light rims right side pic.I don't know if ill use the kit tires or not.they look ok but the two piece tire kinda sucks.if anyone knows of a more accurate tire available let me know. Force Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 (edited) Vac-u-pan. A way to reduce internal pressure in the crank case using the exhaust to pull it out...today they use vacuum pumps for that. Edited July 20, 2014 by Force
booboo60 Posted July 21, 2014 Posted July 21, 2014 Lou, hllo im alan! Aka Boo Boo! Lol! Say I know everyone cuts doors and trunks out differently, but was wondering how you did yours, thy look really clean! I.e. dremel! Or hobby knife! Thread? Thanks! I have built like 3 of this car! Plus did a grumpy jenkins version, it came out nice too! Fun build and great racing parts! Take care an ill be following you also, alan, ps, ill ad you to friends list if thats ok.
lou s Posted July 22, 2014 Author Posted July 22, 2014 boo boo I use the back side of the black handled testors hobby knife.i like it the best because its sturdy.it works great for plastic body because they are thin.dont use it on resin body they are much thicker and the testors blade also get thicker.you end up taking more than you wanted to.
futurattraction Posted July 22, 2014 Posted July 22, 2014 (edited) Lou, You asked about better slicks than the kit slicks. While I'm not very good at tooting my own horn, I've got what I refer to as a 16x33 slick that I sell on my website that is a direct replacement for the kit 2-piece slicks. It's 1-piece and molded in such a way that the tread surface is perfectly flat. Here's a pic of one with the Revell DragStar wheel I'm using on my Fairmont build: It's real rubber and is a great replacement. BTW, are you planning to go to the KKIM show in Davenport in October? lou s Posted July 22, 2014 Author Posted July 22, 2014 NEED SOME HELP FROM THE NESTALGIA PRO STOCK GUYS.as the pics show ive started with the intior chassis.by the refrence pics I think ive got the look but I cant find any pic that sows much behind the seat.does anyone have any idea where it goes from here.also i cant tell by any of the pics if the bar I colored in red is on the original car.any help would be great.
lou s Posted July 22, 2014 Author Posted July 22, 2014 yes that's the tire im looking for.il be putting in an order with you in the next couple of days.ill also be using your fronts on this build.thanks
crowe-t Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 This looks like it's going to be an exiting build! I can't wait to see more progress. Louie - I don't believe the red colored bar is on the original car. I think that was added to Pro Stock cages later. If anyone has any pictures or information, please post. Mike.
Force Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 (edited) No the red bar was not in the original issue, I checked my kit stash and this bar came in the Tony Foti L.A.P.D. Camaro issue from 1991 together with the funny car style cage around the driver, the issues before that didn't have this bar...it should be bars behind the seats going from half way on the main hoop down to the floor towards the middle of the car tho' and I think they are in the kit. The Reher-Morrison and Frank Iaconio Camaro's together with the Bob Glidden and Rickie SmithThundebird's were the first kits in the "modern era" Pro Stock kit series from Revell/Monogram, there are three more evolutions with this tooling as base and some things are added or changed with the later issues. The second evolution was the Tony Foti L.A.P.D Camaro, next in line was the Jerry Eckman Pennzoil and Rickie Smith STP Firebird's and the latest was the Warren Johnson GM Goodwrench Service Plus/Superman and Mark Pawuk Summit Firebirds...and this reissue as I have understood it is sort of a mish mash of all issues, the Moroso valve covers from the first issue are gone and some things are not accurate to the time period the car represents. crowe-t Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 I thought Louie was asking if the real RM P/S car had the red bar? I do have both the original RM and Frank Iaconio Pro Stock Monogram kits and they don't have the red bar. I have a later Model King issue Firebird Pro Stock kit and it has the red bar.
Force Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 (edited) No it doesn't as that bar is part of the funny car style cage setup wich the 1982 car didn't have...that rule came a couple of years later (84-85)...the original kit was patterned after the Reher & Morrison 1982-83 car if I'm not missinformed so it should be quite correct. lou s Posted July 23, 2014 Author Posted July 23, 2014 the reference pics I have always have a glare on the glass but if it wasn't in the rules im sure it isn't there.how close is the chassis in the original kit compared to the real car?i fount this pick of grumpys Camaro.it shows bars down the middle of the tubs but im not sure how it ties into th rear hoop....in the second pic it shows two bars coming down from the cener of the hoop but not in the first pic.
