disabled modeler Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 Awesome review, I have the ambulace, and the slammer vans and the custom van, a few, but I don't have this one, I need to get it. I had the Ambulance and the custom one as a kid....love to have the ambulance or factory stock one again. They also had one called(Iron Sides)never could find one of those though.
Whelen36 Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 Iron sides, that kit was supposed to be based off the tv show. The show starring the actor from perry mason, I can't think of his name now.

There also was one called(Visible van)....Id love to have another stab at building these again now that I am not as young as I was then.

MartinGTE Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 Motor City Resins has this van in 1/25. Thanks Ben; I had already discoverd it (http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=81149), really NICE, but it is a version without the extra windows...
atenzapower Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 Wow Well its not mine scale, but i need one of those kits, what an great kit.
Faust Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 If it’s one kind of vehicle I really miss seeing around, it’s the old ‘70s street vans! I remember when those things with murals, and crazy interiors, were everywhere! I have a real soft spot for their creativity and outlandishness! That’s why I love to build street van kits, although I don’t have many of them. I have to say I was disappointed by the “Vantasy” kit from a while ago, since half the fun is the interior, and it doesn’t have one! Thankfully, the reissue MPC HighJacker does have one, and man, does it ever scream out its age! I managed to snag one of these recently at my LHS. There was NO WAY I was going to turn it down, and when I got it home, I was pretty excited by what I found. Check out my review of this long-lost and long overdue model. Just make sure you extinguish all smoking materials, please. Oh wait, never mind… https://adamrehorn.wordpress.com/model-kits/out-of-box-reviews/round-2-mpc-120-highjacker-oob/
Phildaupho Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 I'm digging this. Great review. I remember coming across a Hot Rod mag back in '71 that had an article on the new California phenomena of fixed up vans. I joined the trend but went the VW split window route while my best buddy bought a brand new GMC 350 4-barrel, dual exhaust van. It was a fun era. Looking forward to seeing more vans at model shows.
'70 Grande Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 "...gonna love her in my Chevy van and that's alright with me." Oh yeah; what a time!
disabled modeler Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 I once owned a mid 70s Dodge custom van....love to build a replica of it if I could find the right one.
Faust Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 Glad you liked the review! I missed out on the ability to be part of the Vannin' scene back in the day, but I remember seeing lots of them at car shows when I was a kid. They were always my favourite things. Thanks to modelling, now I can own multiple vans! This thing is rough, sure, but man, once you see the wood and studded Naugahyde inside, you KNOW it's going to be worth it! I'm hoping that Round 2 will pop out some more old Van kits; there were sure enough of them back in the day!
Faust Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 Sorry, I didn't see this topic when I posted my review in a new one! Thanks for getting it to the right place, whoever is in charge of that One thing I found surprising was that the tires were lettered! Why is it that this kit can get lettered tires, but so many other new, and I think reissued ones, don't?
