Shaker's "BOSS NOVA"...Only 5 Days to Build!

The Santa Rosa IPMS Theme for August is Your Fastest Builds! I decided to build the AMT Boss Nova with a Chopped Top and 2 Corvette Engines from the AMT Double Dragster. I built both of these kits many years ago, except the Boss Nova used to be a 3n1 Station Wagon with a little Trailer and an extra Chrysler Engine. I started collecting Parts Monday Night.

Next I removed the Chrome from most of the Chrome Parts.

Then I started spray painting plates full of Parts.

The Next Day... Body Work!

I started by Chopping the Top Off with an X-acto Razor Saw!

Then I fit the Top inside of the Body and found that if I Chopped 5/16" off, the Body would be about 3/16" too wide for the Top. So I figured that a 3/32" wide Plastic Strip added to each side would be the right width for the Top.

Here is the Body with one of the Side Strips glued in. Notice that the Strip is a little higher than the Body. This is because the Strip is glued in on an angle and I had to attach it high enough so that the inside of the Strip was Flush with the Body.

Next I sanded the Strips down Flush with the Body.

This is an interesting project, you build really cool stuff! I like the Nova and I'm interested in seeing how it will turn out. Anyway I believe you can do it in this short time, I know I couldn't!

Top Chopping!

I double checked the Chop Lines and they seem to be just right!

I cut the post off with a Cut-Off Wheel in a Dremel Tool.

I decided to fill the slot in the roof so I cut a piece of sheet plastic to fit. Then I glued it in place with Zap-A-Gap, Green Label.

Top Chopped!

Here is the Chopped top glued in place on the Plastic Strips. I added another strip on the back before gluing.

Are you done yet? :D It takes me longer than 5 days to glue the engine halves together, yet alone build the entire kit.

Yes it is!

The trick is to plan ahead and then actually stop building at the Deadline. I wanted to keep building and adding more detail, but I did stop at 5 days... B)

Hey, I built the Tom Daniel's Red Baron in 4 days, and it looks okay for it being built when I was 8 or 9! You can do it Ira! haha

Thanks for the Vote of Confidence Glenn!

Cut it Out!

The Engine Compartment from the original 3n1 Station Wagon Kit is still in the Funny Car Kit...

So I cut it out with a Cut Off Wheel and later used a Sanding Disk to clean up the rough edges.
