Mr. Moparman Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 Hey guys! Brandon here with another project! This time it's Revell's new 1964 Chevrolet Impala, re-kitted as a "Chip Foose" version. My grandfather was diagnosed with cancer recently, and his first car was a '64 Impala. I will be building this car as a replica of his, and will be giving it to him for Christmas. The paint will be Testors Blazing Black, part of their One-Coat Lacquer line, with a black/red interior. Enjoy!
slusher Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 Great gift idea. looking forward to your build..
Johnny1973 Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 (edited) I agree with Carl,looking forward to see this built . Edited August 23, 2014 by Johnny1973
Mr. Moparman Posted August 25, 2014 Author Posted August 25, 2014 Ok guys! I need some GM fans to chime in on this thread to point out my flaws. If it isn't obvious, I am a Mopar guy, and this is like my third Chevy. Just so you know.... Anywho, the engine work has started. I need to paint the oil filter, but the stupid instructions assume you are going to be building the car as the Foose version, and therefore only give you the Foose color options. The carburetor, painted a more correct aluminum color instead of chrome, and given a light black wash. Went on ahead and detailed the wheel covers/hubcaps/whatever Chevy called them. Painted the alternator bracket flat black. (Harry would be so proud that there is actually a bracket.) The fan parts The exhaust headers. Enjoy!
W-409 Posted August 25, 2014 Posted August 25, 2014 Great job so far! I think there are no flaws to be pointed out. The engine looks good. That orange color is pretty close to the Chevy Engine Red, so what paint did you use? Also the paint on that carburetor looks much better than just chrome plating. How about the same paint for alternator as well? Looks like this kit has a pretty good looking Rochester carburetor... Maybe I must pick one up. Oh, and glad to see you building a Chevy!

I used Model Master Acrylic Chevy Engine Red for the engine. They had another color, GM Engine Blue that I was gonna grab, but I did a quick Bing search on my phone to see if '64s had blue engines or red.
GLMFAA1 Posted August 25, 2014 Posted August 25, 2014 The oil filter back then was a cartridge that fit in a black canister, looks like the kit has a modified filter system Hope the real car was an SS, If it was the SS in the hubcaps were red. damper and water pump pulleys were black projects with meaning are very special, good luck greg
CJ1971 Posted August 28, 2014 Posted August 28, 2014 Cudos to you Brandon, for doing this for your grandad ?
Mr. Moparman Posted September 1, 2014 Author Posted September 1, 2014 (edited) Hey guys! Sorry I haven't posted much lately, I have been without internet for several days. Anywho, I'm back at it again with an update! I got the body painted and detailed. I ran out of BMF on my Daytona build, and the only way for me to get it is to buy it online, and I don't have the funds for that right now, so I just did my usual treatment with a silver Sharpie. I painted the chassis Metallic Red, as I wanted something to contrast the gloss black floor pans. I assembled the suspension, and got the engine nestled in between the frame rails. Anyhow, that's all for now! Enjoy! Edited September 1, 2014 by Mr. Moparman
Johnny1973 Posted September 1, 2014 Posted September 1, 2014 Body and the frame look great. The engine looks right at home between the frame rails.
Bob Ellis Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 Your work is beautiful, so don't take this as criticism. The A posts on 62-64 Impala 2 door coupes/convertibles have solid bright trim, with no paint on the outside.
promoman Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 The chrome work looks good for a sharpie, Mine would be very shakey!!!
Mr. Moparman Posted September 15, 2014 Author Posted September 15, 2014 No pics right now, but I did paint the floor pans today and flock the carpet with black flocking. I'll have pics when I join the chassis and the floor pans together.
