tubbs Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 "Rockin' the Fillmore" or "Frampton Comes Alive"?"Frampton comes alive"
johnbuzzed Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 "The telephone is ringin', you got me on the run, I'm drivin' in my car now, anticipatin' fun..."
tubbs Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 "Free Bird", Lynyrd Skynyrd. I hate that song, studio and live. Probably because it's overplayed (in my opinion)I don't think I ever heard the studio version for freebird..... I hate that stupid whistling in that song and agree with both of you. lots of stuff gets overplayed nowadays."The telephone is ringin', you got me on the run, I'm drivin' in my car now, anticipatin' fun..."under my wheels - Alice Cooper
johnbuzzed Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 "Militant mothers, hidin' in their basements. Usin' pots and pans as their shield and their helmets..." "Frampton comes alive" "...Fillmore" ain't bad, either. "I Don't Need No Doctor".
tubbs Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 I'm a fighter, I'm a poet, I'm a preacherI've been to school and baby, I've been the teacherIf you show me how to get up off the groundI can show you how to fly and never ever come back downwe went to this guys (groups) concerts plenty of times..... just for all the girls that were there!!! good times back then.

"I Don't Need No Doctor".haha... a double album with only 7 songs on it. I wish I would have seen humble pie in concert. don't forget about "stone cold fever" and "Hallelujah I Love Her So" which was a Ray Charles song.
DonW Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 Really...? Freebird. Just wondering how few words it would take! Maybe I should just have said 'If I...', you'd probably still have got it. Overplayed? Not by the band themselves, sadly. Probably not their best either. I still love it though.

Lay your hands on me - Jon Bon Jovi
DonW Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 (edited) A bit more obscure than Freebird: 'Standing on the runway waiting for takeoff I wanna fly, wanna watch me flake off I can't move 'cause the man has a rake off You gotta help me Help me to shake off...' Edited October 7, 2014 by DonW

I still love it though.Or "And she's..."It's not that the songs are bad, I'm just sick of hearing them, and I have copies of them in my collection. I blame the radio and who ever decided to flood the airwaves. I'll include Dream On as another one I've heard enough of for my lifetime.
Snake45 Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 correct. largest selling live album ever. got his start in Humble pie. I am not one for live albums, but that, deep purple made in japan and Kiss first live album are tops on my list. oh and anything live by Stevie Ray Vaughn. Two of my very favorite live albums from back in the day are Humble Pie Rockin' the Filmore and Steppenwolf Live. I went looking for the latter on CD a few years ago and bought something that turned out to be recorded in the 2000s. Worst recorded/mixed live album I've ever heard. You hear WAY too much of John Kay and too little of anything else. Worse yet, he can't quite sing all the lead lines anymore and is often heard dropping down and singing harmony. They might have been able to get away with this if it had been mixed different/better. Still some pretty cool stuff on there but WAY too many annoying moments for full enjoyment. As for Frampton Comes Alive, I got thoroughly burned out on that when it was new. When one of those tunes comes on the "classic rock" stations now, I grab the remote and see what else is on. ("What classic rock songs are you burned out on?" might make a good thread here sometime.)

johnbuzzed Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 We actually stopped listening to an album-rock type station at my last job. Too many years of the same old, same old- even though they threw in the occasional Zappa. I knew the DJ and would ask her to shake it up a bit, play something different from, let's say, Ten Years After (NOT "I'd Love to Change the World"). No go- they were bound to a (corporate) playlist... A good filet mingnon is a nice dinner, but I don't want it every day. Now and then, a cheeseburger is good, or a bowl of chili, or some 'que.... "I got to pay my dues You know I sing the blues. Got to do my thing All I do is sing rock and roll."

"One Way Street" would be good, too, or "Uncle Salty". Or even "Seasons of Wither". The lyrics are from Ten Years After....
Psychographic Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 "Militant mothers, hidin' in their basements. Usin' pots and pans as their shield and their helmets..." Vincent Furnier , Generation Landslide
tubbs Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 Vincent Furnier , Generation Landslidehehe, I laugh every time I see that name. no wonder he changed it to Alice Cooper
tubbs Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 "One Way Street" would be good, too, or "Uncle Salty". Or even "Seasons of Wither".The lyrics are from Ten Years After....all good tunes.ahhh, a little Alvin Lee. that's one group I don't know too much about.
Mike_G Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 Peter Frampton. No, thanks. Try this. And you'll be sorry when I'm dead And all this guilt we be on your head! Can't Stand Losing You by The Police
johnbuzzed Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 Vincent Furnier , Generation Landslide Absolutely crazy in concert back in 1973. He got... "intimate" with a dancing molar, then was decapitated. No wonder why I'm so messed up... it's all that no-good, hippie rock and roll!!!

His cover of Hank Snow's "I'm Movin' On" on the Forgotten Songs and Unsung Heroes album oozes fat guitar tone a la Kent Henry
Snake45 Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 His cover of Hank Snow's "I'm Movin' On" on the Forgotten Songs and Unsung Heroes album oozes fat guitar tone a la Kent Henry I've never heard that. I like John Kay's voice but this new(ish) live album doesn't showcase it very well. Nice to have a live version of Rock Me, though, after all these years. I actually saw Steppenwolf live, as a kid in 1968. I don't remember too much about it except for Kay did several mini-monologs ripping on the Pope. Apparently he wasn't a fan of the Pope for some reason. (Steppenwolf had one whole song on that theme, and worked a line on it into at least one other song,)
Snake45 Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 i'm not even saying change the group, good idea though, instead of "walk this way" a million times, how about "round and round", or "kings and queens"...... and I would have loved to see 3 young ladies in the school gym locker room looking at me!! and no, I don't know the lyrics... Speaking of Queen, I was an early fan of theirs, but am burned out on all the Q songs you now hear on the radio except Fat Bottom Girls. IMHO their best album ever was Sheer Hear Attack and I don't think I've ever heard anything from that on the radio except Killer Queen. What I wouldn't give to hear Tenement Funster or Brighton Rock or Now I'm Here on the car radio every once in a while!
