no one knows what happened that day,

how his car overturned in flames,

but as they pulled him from the twisted wreck,

with his dying breath, they heard him say...

"Tell Laura I Love Her"

Spirits above and behind me

Faces gone, black eyes burnin' bright

May their precious blood forever bind me

Lord as I stand before your fiery light

The Rising - Bruce Springsteen good song

Well, she shot him dead

On a sunny Florida road

When they caught her all she said

Was she couldn't stand the way he drove...

That's Dave Edmunds--From Small Things (Big Things One Day Come). But he didn't write it--you want the writer, too? (I've never been able to find a recording of the writer performing that song, and I'd love to, because it's so him.)

Another lyric by the same writer, with a song two other artists had a hit with:

What I got I have earned

What I'm not I have learned

Desire and hunger is the fire I breathe

Just stay in my bed till the morning comes

Is that "Because the Night" by Springsteen? "Desire and hunger is the fire I breathe" sounds right, but the rest of it seems different...

Some say I've got a bad attitude

But that don't change the way I feel about you

And if you think this might be bringing me down

Look again 'cause I ain't wearing no frown!

Yup. If you can find a rare recording him of him doing it, that's the way he sings it.

That song was, believe it or not, cut from Darkness on the Edge of Town. What genius thought "Adam Raised a Cain" was a better song than Because the Night?

Now my widow she weeps by my grave
Tears flow free for her man she couldn't save
Shot down in cold blood by a gun that carried fame
All for a useless and no good worthless claim

What about that brand new ring?
Doesn't that mean love to you?
Doesn't that mean anything?
If I threw away my pride
And I got down on my knees
Would you make me beg you, "pretty please?"

I know it, but both the song title and artist are just too long to type.

There has been at least 6 versions of that song recorded, maybe more.

Buffalo Springfield recorded the original version- it was written by Stephen Stills.
