Just found this. Clunky die cast or not. You sir have taken a toy and made a masterpiece!

Thank you John. Where is Northfield, OH? I grew up in the Youngstown area and I don't recall hearing of Northfield.

Thank you Tom.

In Summit county near the border of Cuyahoga county. I live walking distance to Northfield Harness racetrack that just built a Hard Rock casino. If I was a gambling man I'd be in big trouble! Good thing I have this hobby to drain my extra cash instead! lol!

I lived in Akron for three years and I still can't place Northfied in my mind. Again, thanks for the kind words.

It's been a long time since the last update, so it's time for an update.

After looking at this spoiler for a while, I came to the realization that it just doesn't look right. It's too thin, too high and too far forward.

I added some strip styrene to attempt to reshape the spoiler.

More styrene added and it's time for sanding, shaping and filling.

Here's what I'm working toward.

Getting closer. Just need to flatten the arc out a little- take the points off the lead edge.

As always, feel free to comment and thanks for taking the time to look.

Bill and Christian, thanks again.

Hopefully soon I'll find some time and energy to get this finished- I'm so close.

I finally got this one finished!

It's the first time I've been able to build a replica of a car I've owned. For the most part, I'm pleased with the way it turned out.

Just to recap-

Here's what I started with.

Here's where I wanted to go.

And here's what I ended up with.

I'm not sure if I am allowed to move this to the Under Glass section or if it must stay in the Die-Cast Desert.

In either case, I'll be updating my personal web page soon with additional images from this project.

Now, on to the next project.

Nicely done. B)

But why slam this section as the diecast "desert?"

It's the diecast section. No desert. If people are too lazy to scroll down, it's their loss.

That came out really well! You sure got lucky finding that die cast to build you 1:1. I'm a little late finding this but enjoyed going through the build start to finish.

I'd like to ask one thing .. what is the orange goop you used to mask the insides of the wheels for painting? I have need for a similar masking job.

Slam? I live in a desert.

It just seems kind of lonely here- not as much activity. Kind of like a desert.

Thanks though, I'm glad you like it.

Thanks Foxer, I'm glad you enjoyed it. I looked for weeks to find it, I was very lucky there was one to find.

The orange stuff I used to mask the wheels is Silly Putty. It's a technique I learned from somebody here on the MCM Forum.

Turned out great David. I had to study that last photo by the pool to see if it was the model or the real car.

Northfield is north of Akron along Rt 8 almost to Cleveland. If I was still there I would have to try that casino, lol

Thanks Tom.

I remember Northfield now- near Twinsburg, right?

I lived in Akron for three years before I moved to AZ.

Great job on the conversion

Thank you!

I would fight for David's right to display this car in the under glass section. Heck, his build should've been in the "Model Cars - Under Construction" section. Once he cracked that diecast open and completely redid it, it indeed is a model. Note that the very beginnings of our hobby in the 1950s was guys who broke open promotional models and made their own creations. In my book, that's a model no matter what the medium.

The diecast section? Should just be a place for people to show prebuilt stuff they bought that way!
