ferrarijoe Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 (edited) Starting new build Tamiyas LaFerrari. I am also using Tamiya photo etched and Tamiya carbon Fiber set. the doors are made up of 7 pieces. body panels getting ready for primer. Edited September 5, 2014 by ferrarijoe
Bennyg Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 Have fun with this. I just got my second one. I ruined the body work on my first one trying to strip paint. Will be watching. Definitely read some assembly articles on this,it. They give good tips on the assembly and paint. Cheers Ben
Nacho Z Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 Looking forward to watching this one Joe. Post a lot of in-progress pics for us, (well me at least ) Good luck with it!
maltsr Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 Still haven't started mine so I too will be watching closely. Glad to hear you have a second kit Ben
ferrarijoe Posted September 5, 2014 Author Posted September 5, 2014 here is a look at Tamiya carbon set here some photo etch put on.
Bennyg Posted September 6, 2014 Posted September 6, 2014 That's the go. The photo etch can go on some parts before painting which makes it neater. Another thing I learned late. Ben
ferrarijoe Posted September 7, 2014 Author Posted September 7, 2014 so got some primer and color going. Ran out of primer half way thru so haid to run to hobby lobby and get more. Wish I had a real hobby store in town. the only red on this Ferrari. Did the exhaust and struts with Alclad Titanium Gold, just for something different. started with gloss black bottom coat then 3 coats alclad. Engine and radiators Alclad Dull Aluminum.
ferrarijoe Posted September 7, 2014 Author Posted September 7, 2014 small update for some reason Tamiya doesn't include the orange hybrid wiring in the engine bay. You can clearly see it in all pics of car. so going to try to scratch build it. Started buy drilling out connectors and running 20 gauge jewelers wire. a few pieces detail painted
jaydar Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 Thank you for showing the placement of the hybrid wiring! Joe.
ferrarijoe Posted September 7, 2014 Author Posted September 7, 2014 Laid some color down on body panels. Using Wicked Air Wicked Silver.
janositamas Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 Looks cool so far, the color suits the car well IMO :-)
MeatMan Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 Nice work. I've got the 458 so I'm taking notes.
ferrarijoe Posted September 8, 2014 Author Posted September 8, 2014 Quick update. Stripped wheels of chrome. i have not seen it on here before, but this is how I strip chrome. Liquid Plumber. takes less then 5 mins to strip Tamiya chrome don't know about others. And it is designed to not eat plastic since most houses have plastic pipes either abs or pvc. It might strip paint too ,but never tried it. less then 30 seconds later. after rinsing and wash with dish soap.
martinfan5 Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 Joe, I knows these may be little bit late, but they still might help you, photos of a La Ferrari at the factory being built http://s1105.photobucket.com/user/irvan2836/library/Ferrari%20LA%20Ferrari
