For a change of pace, now and then I like to polish out the raw plastic of a colorful snapper or distressed promo and finish it off that way. I realize I now have (or shorty will) completed raw projects in Red, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, and Violet. I need an orange one to complete my Spectrum Collection.

So what kits have been molded in orange?

Monogram '69 GTO Judge would be an obvious choice but in 1/24 it would overwhelm the rest of the collection so I need to stay with 1/25.

I have the AMT '68 Z/28 but am having a problem with the fact that orange wasn't a factory '68 color. That model would always just look "unfinished" and wrong to me.

I have an orange AMT '70 Challenger that so far looks like my best bet. Not a snapper but I can live with it.

Am I overlooking some obvious candidate?

(Just for illustration of the concept, here's my "Indigo"--Revell '63 Corvette snapper in dark metallic blue:)

The MPC 1972 GTO

Very interesting! I bought one of those just for parts but hadn't opened it yet.

But you just reminded me, I think maybe the "new" AMT '70.5 Z/28 is in orange, too. THAT would be an excellent candidate for my project. Gonna go check on that right now. Thanks!

Just checked...the AMT '70 Camaro IS molded in orange! It's a bit lighter than Hugger Orange (closer to '74 Bright Orange) but I think I can make it do.

It's also quite translucent. Maybe black paint on the entire inside would darken it a bit. I'll have to experiment with that.

one of the 70s issue revel 54 chevys was, and the new round2 40 ford coupe can be got in orange, or white if the buyer has and sense...........that's all I can think of, as I never think about any kits unless they are in white.....i'm with scott on that one..the ace.. :P

Black will muddy it up a bit, use dark brown.

Very interesting! I was also thinking of using orange, or maybe a bright red, or even red primer. Maybe I'll do some experiments on the hood, or on the top of the chassis or something.

The Orange Crate is produced by Revell, The Orange Hauler is by Monogram - also the TD California Street Vette by Monogram, Baja Bandito, & I think The Son of Ford 32 Ford Roadster ( not 100% sure )

Oh wouldn't I LOVE to find a JoHan '69 Road Runner molded in orange! Pretty sure I couldn't afford it on eBay these days, though.

Believe it or not, I have an old HAWK 1/72 Spitfire model molded in bright orange. And one in dark red. And one in a pretty good representation of SubLime!

This ugly travesty of modeling...post-10758-0-34462100-1410532396_thumb.j

Belongs in the "Ugly Build-Up" thread, too.

I'm not sure who the manufacturer was or when this was released.

(I missed the topic note about 1/25 scale. I think this thing is 1/20).

Speaking of orange, there's the recent reissue of the AMT '62 Vette which had the one-per-case metallic orange body. I believe AMT did one also for the reissued Meyers Manx dune buggy.

The Monogram orange plastic is probably better for polishing- a lot of the newer releases, particularly MPC seem more translucent

for 1/24 the original Monogram 71 Hemicuda was orange

Others I can think of from my stash are JoHan '69 Road Runner, MPC "fogged" '71 Charger, Revell '69 Vette, and the 80s issue 74 GTX

For snappers, the Hot Wheels version of the Revell 63 Corvette Coupe was orange, but like the 68 Camaro that wasn't a factory color.

The 2010 Mustang Convertible is a gold that falls within the orange spectrum, but it is kinda funky plastic.

I have a soft spot for these 70's pseudo street racers! Wish they would re-release a few of them!

And yes, got the Orange Hauler and Crate confused! Thanks for the correction!

...Revell '69 Vette....

Happy happy joy joy! I was not only able to FIND that kit in the terrifying Snakepit, but actually extricate it from its entombment in the Wall of Styrene!

1/25 scale, check...good solid color, check...reasonable approximation of '69 Chevy Hugger/Monaco orange, check! I think we may have a winner!

Thanks SO much for this suggestion, Chris! You are officially My New Favorite Person of the Day! B)
