phil-east Posted September 24, 2014 Posted September 24, 2014 I built this using the Tamiya kit, It basically fell together and is one of the best fitting kits i have built to date. I painted the body with Tamiya Light Metallic blue (TS-54). I built it pretty much box stock with the paint job and chrome being the only differences. I love the chrome look with the metallic blue so I muscle car'd it up a bit and am very happy with the result. Many thanks for looking, Any and all feedback is welcome positive or negative. Phil.
phil-east Posted September 24, 2014 Author Posted September 24, 2014 (edited) I will hopefully get some decent outdoor pics up here but it's very weather dependent over here at the minute. Finally got a bit of sunshine so i got some outdoors pics. Edited September 27, 2014 by phil-east
jrherald420 Posted September 24, 2014 Posted September 24, 2014 Nice looking car! I built the Gunze Sangyo version of this and it was really fun to build. I wish it came with those rims!!
phil-east Posted September 24, 2014 Author Posted September 24, 2014 thanks man, i love the rims, but they were a bit awkward as the kit has no chromed parts so i ended up using BMF on them due to a lack of adequate chrome like paint.
jrherald420 Posted September 24, 2014 Posted September 24, 2014 For those to be all BMF they look outstanding! I never would have guessed.
Monty Posted September 24, 2014 Posted September 24, 2014 I will hopefully get some decent outdoor pics up here but it's very weather dependent over here at the minute. Beautiful work on one of my favorite old Porsches, Phil. I hope you get a chance to shoot some outdoor pics - I'd love to see that paint in the sunlight.
phil-east Posted September 24, 2014 Author Posted September 24, 2014 me too monty, the pics don't really do the paint justice. Thanks for the compliments guys.
Dave Posted September 24, 2014 Posted September 24, 2014 Well done, love the color, foiled the wheels? WOW.Excellent job!
karbuildr Posted September 24, 2014 Posted September 24, 2014 Very nice build. One of my favorite Tamiya colors.
Maxicoop Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 Awesome lookin' porsche !!!! great color and detail !!!
phil-east Posted September 25, 2014 Author Posted September 25, 2014 thanks for all the compliments, the weather is still dull here today so hopefully i will get some sunshine for some outdoor pics tomorrow.
ZTony8 Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 You saved yourself much work by not puttying the joint on the rear spoiler.I puttied mine and sanding and painting the inside of the spoiler was a character builder!
phil-east Posted September 25, 2014 Author Posted September 25, 2014 when i started planning the kit out i had a good debate with myself about the spoiler, I didn't use the putty for exactly that reason. This was a bit of a slump buster for me so i didn't want to complicate things.
tmathew1us Posted September 26, 2014 Posted September 26, 2014 I built this using the Tamiya kit, It basically fell together and is one of the best fitting kits i have built to date. I painted the body with Tamiya Light Metallic blue (TS-54). I built it pretty much box stock with the paint job and chrome being the only differences. I have built this kit, and I agree - one of the finest-engineered and best-fitting kits I have ever done. I am surprised how reasonably priced this kit is at many online retailers. This is a great slump-buster kits. Can't wait to see the kit sparkle in the outdoors.
phil-east Posted September 27, 2014 Author Posted September 27, 2014 i put some outdoors pics in the second post, they are far from perfect but they do show the paint and wheels a bit better.
Bill Eh? Posted September 27, 2014 Posted September 27, 2014 Excellent build-up of the 959. Outdoor shots really show the quality of build and paint. Congratulations.
phil-east Posted October 4, 2014 Author Posted October 4, 2014 thanks Bill, i'm quite proud of this one, the pics still don't really do it justice for some reason, it seems to sparkle on the display shelf.
