tbill Posted March 14, 2015 Posted March 14, 2015 just ordered 2 mack DM600 kits and 2 moebius smooth side trailers, both pre-orders for when they come out.
Chuck Most Posted March 14, 2015 Posted March 14, 2015 Just scored an original Pay Hauler on Ebay For £40 I think that's about $55 That actually isn't too bad- a buddy of mine just got the Round 2 reissue from 2006 for $40 USD, and I've seen people selling them for higher (or at least trying to). . $55 for an original issue is a screaming deal, if you ask me.
72 Charger Posted March 14, 2015 Posted March 14, 2015 This is my second Payhauler . The first one cost me £98. about $130 ish ! So I consider it a Great Deal Ive seen them go for a lot more . Maybe I just got lucky
Roadrunner Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 I've had that Dual Drive less than a week, and it's pretty close to finished. No buyer's remorse there. What you don't see is that the interior is done, and the cab is now painted. Wow, that was fast.
Roadrunner Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 One more to add to my slowly growing pile. Some here have implied this is a great kit, so I figured what the heck. My first (and probably only) COE.
Petetrucker07 Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 The only real issue is the cab halves. They can be a little tricky to get square.
Chuck Most Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 The only real issue is the cab halves. They can be a little tricky to get square. And- as I found out, they can come undone when you try to install the interior tub. Next time I'm going to reinforce them from the inside with thin plastic strip. Doing so should also help lining them up- built out of the box it's nothing but a flimsy butt joint.
Fat Brian Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 I wouldn't go so far as to call it a great kit but with some work it can turn out nice.
Roadrunner Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 Thanks for the comments, fellas, I'll be on the watch for the problem you discussed. I haven't yet opened the kit, so had no idea the cab was split.
Old Buckaroo Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 Kevin, I like that Freightliner kit , As said the tub is tight - take a sanding block to the sides and back and all will be good. The front axle is to wide, I cant remember at the moment on how much to shorten it . I left the front brake drums off of mine and it was ok. Read back on about 5 - 6 of these WIP's and learn the quirks. One other thing AMT instructions show the cab release handles upside down. Cab handles points down not up !
Petetrucker07 Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 Don't glue the shift tower together either. Leave in halves.
Superpeterbilt Posted March 16, 2015 Author Posted March 16, 2015 Big grin going on today Wow! That kit has really become a holy grail for a lot of builders. Whats going to be the donor?
Old Buckaroo Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 I have the Freightliner FLC kit for the donor. They suggest the FLD but you cant find that one as easily or gently priced . (frame is the same anyway)

Yep, I recall reading where yours had split apart, so I'll be watching out for that. Thanks,
guitarsam326 Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 Nice score Sean, those cl9000's have always looked good to me, can't wait to see what you do with it!
Petetrucker07 Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 The truck from Armed and Dangerous, before he started plowing through traffic.
Mackvision Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 Nice score Sean! not being a "Ford Guy" I always thought the CL-9000 was a sharp truck,my next-door neighbor in Jersey actually drove one just like the box-art only it was a single sleeper..................................Mark
Mackvision Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 Clayton, did you notice the CL-9000 turned into a Freightliner before they destroyed it in Armed and Dangerous? always thought that was funny!.....................................Mark
angelo7 Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 The roof is the only problem I had with this kit. I did a horrible job. It needs an expert to fix it.
trick my mixer Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 every one has a problem with that roof seam. If only AMT would make a solid cab it would eliminate that problem, but that will never happen....
Old Buckaroo Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 Angelo , Those stripes look fantastic with that color. Dont stress out about that seam, very few of these kits are ever seen without it.
angelo7 Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 (edited) Thanks Sean. This paint scheme was called "Elizabeth" back in the 70's. Freightliner had a bunch of names for different color schemes. You also mentioned about the front axle being too wide. You said that just in time as I haven't done the wheels yet and I didn't noticed that. Thanks! Edited March 17, 2015 by angelo7
