Tom Geiger Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 Sarcasm was not my intention, if my post suggested such then I apologize. Then I apologize too! When I saw the post it looked like you were mocking me, asking if I hung out with a man who has been dead for a long time and would be 99 years old today! Guess the Internet does that to us,
chunkypeanutbutter Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 I thought the bassist was the one who kept the beat for the band. Hey, what do I know, I play the organ :|
Harry P. Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 I thought the bassist was the one who kept the beat for the band. The drummer keeps the beat. It's always been that way. Some bands (like The Doors, for example), didn't have a bassist.
Snake45 Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 I thought the bassist was the one who kept the beat for the band. Hey, what do I know, I play the organ :| When I was a kid, the bassist was the kid whose mom owned a van they could use to haul all their gear to gigs.
mnwildpunk Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 I was always more a Belinda Carlisle and pat benatar man myself

It's real near the top, too.
chunkypeanutbutter Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 The drummer keeps the beat. It's always been that way. Some bands (like The Doors, for example), didn't have a bassist. Ray Manzarek! Best 'boardist ever. Played a Fender Rhodes Piano Bass on top of his organ.
chunkypeanutbutter Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 Not going to bore you all here, but the organ is WAY more important than you might think.
Ace-Garageguy Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 Not going to bore you all here, but the organ is WAY more important than you might think. Mine sure is.
Snake45 Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 Not going to bore you all here, but the organ is WAY more important than you might think. I collect bootlegs of Warren Zevon concerts. I've got a couple from I think it was 1995, where he toured with an Irish band called Something Happens as his backup. They had a Hammond B3 organ (or something that sounded like it) and when they did "Werewolves of London" with that organ, it sounded like a Three Dog Night song!
Longbox55 Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 From Rock and Rule. Deborah Harry provides the singing voice for Angel, along with Robin Zander as the singing voice for Omar. She also co-wrote this song for the movie.
Craig Irwin Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 I thought the bassist was the one who kept the beat for the band. Hey, what do I know, I play the organ :| The drums and bass together make the rhythm section. When I was a kid, the bassist was the kid whose mom owned a van they could use to haul all their gear to gigs. True dat.
