Regarding the radiator frame with the square corners, what was your process here? It looks like it could help me make a radiator guard for my 1/16 Mercedes SS.

Kit piece. I did nothing to it other than paint it.

Looking really fine Harry. I love your process, it always makes me smack my head in a "Duh" for not having thought of a particular technique. Because of your WIP's I have bought several cans of the paints you've indicated and the results are very good.

It's appreciated.

Got the fenders done. It's hard to see in the photos, but I used some gold 1/64" pinstriping tape on them. The tape was hard to work with. Being so thin, it's hard to get it to lay down straight. It also has a clear plastic protective layer on top that you have to remove, so laying down the tape while trying to remove the clear plastic as you go is a real pain.

The pinstripes are tough to see in these photos, but they're much more obvious in "real life."

Finishing the seat support/shell (what passes for the "body" on this car) took some time. First I sprayed it Gloss Ivory, then used Tamiya tape to mask off the depressed areas...

Then I mixed up a shade of red using acrylic craft paints that matched the color of the fenders that I had sprayed with Rustoleum, and brush painted the raised ribs. I brush painted with acrylics instead of just using the Rustoleum spray because I was afraid some of the red would seep under the tape and ruin the piece. Acrylic paint is pretty thick, so it won't tend to seep into minute crevices, plus by brushing it I can put down a thin first coat to "seal" the tape edges, than add a couple of heavier coats to get full coverage. Finally I sealed the acrylic red with a coat of Future...

Once everything was dry I carefully ran the tip of a brand-new blade along every tape edge in order to cut through the red paint and Future, so that when I pulled away the tape I would get a clean edge with no paint being pulled off. Then a added the pinstripes using the same pinstriping tape I used on the fenders (it shows up in the photos much better on the Ivory than on the red fenders:

The last step will be brushing on a few coats of Future so seal the tape stripes.

Nice work. What brand tape are you using? Looks like its oprety flexible as I can see you did some curves.

Maybe their other colors are more flexible, but the metallic gold is pretty stiff, even at 1/64". It does not like going around radiuses.

It would be amazing to see a display of your brass cars in person. No one has ever done them better.

I agree! And these WIPs are master classes in plastic model making.

I added the wood trim to the front of the seat platform using basswood strips and 1/64" birch veneer, all stained and then "varnished" with Future. The decorative brass "bullets" are brass planking nails left over from a wooden ship kit. I added a black wash around each of them... the effect is very subtle, but very apparent if you saw a "before" photo. The seat was painted with an acrylic dark red I mixed up, then blackwashed with a mix of Future and acrylic black, and finally sprayed with Varathane Satin water-based varnish. The camera flash adds some specular highlights on the seat that you don't see in real life. The seat "leather" looks more like real leather to the naked eye. The grab handles on the seat are kit pieces.

Inspiring work Harry. That seat looks amazing.

Thanks, but it looks way better in real life. The camera flash emphasizes the black wash for some reason; in real life the effect is much more subtle and the seat doesn't have that hard shine that it looks to have in the picture. When I put this thing "Under Glass" I'll have to try some shots using natural light and no flash.

This kit comes with a small rear seat, but I want to put a trunk there instead. I found this scale model trunk kit on ebay, it's supposed to be here Friday. The kit is laser-cut wood, paper (the pattern on the trunk walls), and PE brass hardware. It looks a lot like a vintage Louis Vuitton travel trunk and should look right at home on the back of this car. Here's a photo of the assembled kit (photo from ebay seller):

The hood latches are non-existent in the kit, so I scratchbuilt them of bits of styrene stock, using reference photos. The knobs on the handles were formed with a tiny blob of 5-minute epoxy.
