Ace-Garageguy Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 (edited) My lawn sprinkler company was real hot to winterize my system back in September. Once I contacted them mid October they kept putting me off. With the freeze last week I came home to water gushing out of the sprinkler standpipe next to my house. Of course they were scheduled to come that Friday. I turned off the valve inside my house, and when they came the technician was back peddling that it was 'nobody's fault' since we normally don't get a freeze this early in the year. Well, guess what? In my book it's THEIR fault and I will hold them to doing the repairs in the spring. So, um, you couldn't have turned off the valve and drained the system BEFORE it froze? I'm not being mean. I have some exterior water lines that are temporary during my house renovation, the forecast was for sub-freezing temps for several days last week, and I just closed all the supply valves and drained the lines. Now I don't have to blame anybody. Edited November 22, 2014 by Ace-Garageguy
Tom Geiger Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 So, um, you couldn't have turned off the valve and drained the system BEFORE it froze? No, I hired the sprinkler company on full maintenance contract to open and close the system each year. Their task. My system is a bit complicated since it also supplies water up to my pool area, a few hundred feet at the back of the property and across a bridge. So I pay them to do the annual draining.
Joe Handley Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 Well, looks like I'll be driving the Jeep to work today ......
High octane Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 Hmmmm, snow huh? Looks like I'll be drivin' my two- wheel drive truck today just like any other day.
Joe Handley Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 My Sister drove her Challenger, but her drive to work and back is far shorter than mine. Her's is roughly 3 miles residential street round trip while mine is over 8 miles residential and highway for just the drive in.
Tom Geiger Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 Here in PA/NJ area it was near 70 degrees today. And snow is forecast for Wednesday. I had a colleague here from Puerto Rico the past two weeks and he couldn't get over the changes in temperature. While he was here it was mid 60s and shot down into the 30s. He didn't own a coat! Snow... Geo Tracker 4x4... little mountain goat! I've owned it 23 years and have found it impossible to get stuck!
1930fordpickup Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 Well here we are agian. 6 + on the ground and the radar is showing snow for a few more hours . Like 10 or 12 more hours of snow.
Kris Morgan Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 Yep, looks like it may snow until 7am Monday morning here in metro Detroit. Got about 6 inches so far. Snow fall will get heavier and winds will increase in the evening. Good day to enjoy the Walking Dead marathon.
Tom Geiger Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 (edited) Not a lot of snow in the 'burbs west of Philly. We got a few inches, not enough to even pull out the snow blower. The sun even melted the snow off all the pavement by sun down. Here's some friends out on the front lawn. Added: Just saw on TV that the little bit of snow we'll get this evening will be washed away by rain before the morning commute. Edited February 1, 2015 by Tom Geiger
1930fordpickup Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 (edited) The good neighbor Paying me back for all the years of me using my snowblower, did the first round for me. Now I can wait until after the game to hit the driveway. Edited February 1, 2015 by 1930fordpickup
