kalbert Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 What are you thinking for criteria? I've got a couple drag car ideas, a group build might motivate me to do one.
turbo nova Posted October 9, 2014 Author Posted October 9, 2014 same here, Im in a real rut, I was at Ollies today and was thinking as cheap as they are anyone could get in on it, could be any combination of parts from any of the kits available there even if you didnt buy em there or had allready had em. Im open for anything to get me motivated though, never been a part of one before and was looking for interest, ideas, etc. etc.. the last thing I need is to start another long term deal, thinking quick and cool.

Snake45 Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 I've been trying to think of something interesting to do with Revell's '65 Chevelle Z16. Now they only built 201 of these and they were only made in three colors, red, yellow and black. I've never seen or heard of one being drag raced, except for one that was fitted with one of those weird turbo rear axle thingies. I'd think there would be a ton of "what-if" drag racers that could be built on this kit--Stock, Super Stock, FX, altered wheelbase, etc. Bill Jenkins and/or Dave Strickler, Jungle Jim, Dick Harrell, Bruce Larson, Doug Thorley, and so forth. Sound interesting to anyone else?
turbo nova Posted October 9, 2014 Author Posted October 9, 2014 was just curious if there was any interest, I know most dont seem to scroll down that far and most of those threads are very old.

Snake45 Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 I was born in '54 and there's not a '54 ANYTHING I'm interested in building. If you count the fall introductions of the '55 models, though, I've been wanting to build a '55 Nomad gasser. I can't think of any of the Revell funny cars I'd be interested in.
booboo60 Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 There a 54 Model kits, But thats up too you, 54 chevy panel and car, a 54 chevy gasser, and 54 Hudson Hornet! "pretty kool" a 54 ford gasser, But again, its up too you, Mine is 60, so im kinda limited too like a 60 chevy impala,,lol a football feild long..lol
Snake45 Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 I thought of one '54 I could stand to build if someone put a gun to my head: Corvette. But only if I could do it as a late-'60s Modified Production or Gasser. Pretty sure I have a '53 Vette kit around here somewhere. IIRC only difference between '53 and '54 is all the '53s were white and the '54s were also available in red and blue. Which of course means nothing if I'm doing a fantasy racer.
Stuntman Mike Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 I´d vote for a "F.A.S.T. Class" (factory appearing stock tires) group build. But that would probably not be very interesting for the drag car folks since these cars are pretty much bone stock on the outside. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L2knERK1GE8

cobraman Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 I kind of like the idea of building a car from your year of birth.
Mooneyzs Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 Hmm 1975 would have some sweet Front and rear engine dragsters as well as some funny cars... lol
Snake45 Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 I kind of like the idea of building a car from your year of birth. My mother, who was born in 1932, might participate in such a group build. So might The Lovely Mrs. Snake, born in 1956.
DaveM Posted October 11, 2014 Posted October 11, 2014 I was born in 1965, so I have a couple of choices. Like you just mentioned, the 65 z-16 was not really raced, but the Chevelle sure was. Would this be a car that raced in 1965, or a 1965 model year car that raced? A lot of the old dragsters and altered could be quickly adapted to 1965 standards. Otherwise, I'm sure there were some Galaxies raced in 1965, and maybe a GTO, or a Chevy Impala. I'm pretty sure nobody race a 1965 Riviera, although the El Camino and Chevelle wagon from AMT might be good places to start. No existing kits of Mopars, Fairlanes or Mercs from 1965, but Moebius is working on the Plymouth and the Comet, so if we procrastinate the start of this for a year or two, I might be in perfect shape. If we go with a rule other than year of birth, I will probably be in too. I'm always looking for an excuse to build an older Funny Car, or a Super Stock.
