I was born in 1965, so I have a couple of choices. Like you just mentioned, the 65 z-16 was not really raced, but the Chevelle sure was. Would this be a car that raced in 1965, or a 1965 model year car that raced? A lot of the old dragsters and altered could be quickly adapted to 1965 standards. Otherwise, I'm sure there were some Galaxies raced in 1965, and maybe a GTO, or a Chevy Impala. I'm pretty sure nobody race a 1965 Riviera, although the El Camino and Chevelle wagon from AMT might be good places to start. No existing kits of Mopars, Fairlanes or Mercs from 1965, but Moebius is working on the Plymouth and the Comet, so if we procrastinate the start of this for a year or two, I might be in perfect shape.

If we go with a rule other than year of birth, I will probably be in too. I'm always looking for an excuse to build an older Funny Car, or a Super Stock.

We could just go with 1965 and that would be fine with me--either a '65 model year car or something that raced in 1965. Hell, I just finished a '65 Chevelle drag wagon. I'd be cool with 1966, '67, '68, or '69, too, if anyone wants to limit things to one particular year.

I'd be cool with an altered wheelbase build, too. Been meaning to get to a couple of them anyway.

Oh, I'm certain that someone, somewhere, had a '65 Riv on the strip in at least a Stock class. But even if not, so what? Doesn't mean YOU can't build a '65 Riviera racer if you want--even up to an AWB funny car. Come to think of it, that would be pretty cool!

I'd definitely be interested in a Drag Car community build. The F.A.S.T. would sound very interesting to me, as those are really cool cars and they run amazingly fast in the condition they are. However, building a car from the year you were born is out of the question. I was born in 1996 and there are no cars made in 1996 that interest me.

Im still interested in this, I like many of the suggestions but Id still like to do something simple as it seems whenever these get to involved almost everyone drops out. The FAST stuff is cool but it basically a box stock build. Id hate to have what those guys have in those cylinder heads, the ones on the race car cost less than half of a competitive FAST set up and flow better on a small block.

Define the term "Drags".

As..."Sanctioned" drags...Street drags...ect.

As...I drag raced ...a lot...Un-sanctioned.

On "hidden" straight roads. In Alabama. '70's.

Un safe cars...

Built to cruise/ drag...if needed.

"Grudge Matches".

Some not "Pretty" cars that would "Fly"...

BUT! We competed in a "straight line"...

????

IMO its any vehicle modified to perform better in a strait line. I know of a foxbody with no cage at all, looks like a 7 second 1/8 car, it runs mid fives.

Personally, for our purposes, I'd say something designed, built, and intended for competition on an off-road, dedicated 1/8 or 1/4 mile drag strip. Street legality and/or potential street use entirely optional.

I kind of like the idea of building a car from your year of birth.

ok, give me a hand, name one good car built in 1993

Ok Erik. Not having any idea what you consider a "good car" here is a short list of what is available in kit form for the year 1993.

Toyota MR2

Nissan 300 ZX

Mustang SVT Cobra

Mazda RX7

Corvette ZR-1

Jaguar XJ220

Dodge Viper RT/10

Firebird Trans Am

Camaro Z28

There is more but I suspect if you look you may find something that appeals to you if this idea becomes a build.

How about build a replica of any car/truck and provide a picture(s) of this car to be eligable. and to enter post the picture before starting the build

Edgar

Im still up for it but it seemed every Idea had just as many detractors. I like the idea of keeping it simple cheap and quick as it seems many just drop out or drag out forever, I do like the replica idea, may keep people motivated. myself included.

How about altered wheelbase/match racers/early funny cars of the 1964-67 period, real or imaginary? Lotta freedom there to move around.

Is end of the year too soon to get something together? That's about 10 weeks. I think I could get something done by then.

One week. Big backs, little fronts, big motors...

One week is tight. But I think I could get something together in two weeks, or by the end of the month. B)
