gasser59
If you follow midwest sprint car racing, you know who Ian Madsen is. If you don't, well he just won the points champion award for the latest season concluding in Knoxville, Iowa. I'm collecting items for this upcoming build and wasn't really sure where to post it. Not really an oval or dirt track category here on the forums besides NASCAR. The decals are all done and printed by my friend Chief Joseph. I have tons of pictures because a relative is one of the major sponsors of this racer. I'm having the rims turned by Jim at MicroNitro and I can't wait to see what he comes up with. I'll post a few of the pictures I have of the actual 1:1 car later this afternoon. Stay tuned....this will be fun. gasser59
Ok, here's a few of the reference photos I have out of the 50 or so. I was able to get the vector files for the decals and numbers from the sign company which saved me a ton of time. Thanks for your interest. 10thumbs
Hi Brad, I don't know much about these cars, but I do like the framework and the availablity of PE parts and other stuff for these models. I'll be watching too and looking forward to seeing some cool suspension work. Thanks for posting. Michael
gasser59
Got a bunch of time in yesterday and made a ton of modifications to the frame using aluminum tubing with the ends 'fishmouthed'. I started with the yellow Pennzoil sprint car kit that I bought as a started kit along with the red Steve Kinser kit. I'm using the frame from the Pennzoil kit but a number of other items will be from the Kinser kit since whoever started the yellow Pennzoil kit didn't align the parts properly when they glued them together. The red kit wasn't started but the frame was warped. As with most kit tubular frames, the cross section was 'D' shaped from the moulding process. All of the yellow frame has been filed to resemble round tubing and will require more fine sanding before any primer. Here's my progress from yesterday. Comments welcome. PatW
Now this looks evil....................and fun in the same breath! Interesting thing is I've just bought a few Brass/PE Kirkey seats from DirtModeler, which I understand are used in this type of vehicle! I shall definitely be watching this thread to the end! gasser59
Thanks for your comments Art and Pat. Not much done on the sprinter because I'm waiting on my turned wheels from Jim at MicroNitro before coninuing on the chassis. He's hoping to get them completed tomorrow and I can't wait to see what he comes up with. I also have one of those brass Dirt Modeler seats already assembled and waiting for more bench time. Stay tuned. gasser59
Speaking of graphics, I never showed what the printed decal sheet looks like. There's a few other graphics on the sheet for other builds of mine as well as a few other builders.
