I think its time I get back to work on this one, with a new kit in hand, and with Bob figuring out what I couldnt when it came to the door issues, time to get back to work, my plan was to use the chassis and interior from the first one , but I have decided that I am going to start over , and I am going to finish the first one, just need to figure out a color for it.

What happened to the first one? The paint looked good from here. I think I have everything to start mine in Verde Ithica with matching interior.

Mike, door fit issues happened to the first one, there is a good bit of work needed to let doors sit properly

Good to hear about the fit issues now. I guess I will do a full mockup before paint.

That's too bad it was looking sharp. I've been thinking I need this kit and it is nice to know about the doors-sadly at your expense.

I feel better now that I know what to do to make them fit better

Here is a look at what causes the door fit issues, before I go on, I need say that I had help from another builder that help figured out part of the reason that I missed on the first one I was building.

Starting with a mockup of the interior floor with the rear bulkhead in place

The red lines indicated the areas that need to trimmed
IMG_6344_zpsl7yqcudp.jpg
The red circles show you the hole between the door panel and the tub, there should not be a gap there

I know its hard to see in this pic, I had a hard time getting it to show up, but its there

After trimming , a test fit, getting real close , I will do a mock on the other side to show how much the door sticks out

Jonathan, It's even nicer of you to illustrate this and I thank you for doing so. I love the eye candy and this kind of info on this forum. Thanks for sharing.

Wish I would've seen your thread before building mine!!!! Had the same door issues also but as an extra little caveat, the chassis was warped also. This kit fought me the whole way. It still turned out kinda decent so I'm looking to get another so I can have another attempt at winning the battle, sort of speak.

Anyways.......did you seperate the front and rear purposely? I ask because that is what I did in my attempts to correct the chassis warpage (which it did) and thought it would help with the door fitting also (which it did not).

Following and learning along closely as you go. Please share as much as your time allows.

Btw.......that blue is absolutely awesome!

Thanks

Chris

I did not, first the left side broke, than the right side broke
