very nice work, what about a small cable tie for the belt?

That's a thought as it would be ribbed like the belt. I'll have to experiment a bit to see what might work.

A fellow Escort enthusiast from another forum was kind enough to send me a diagram of the Lubrication System. Of course none of this is represented in the kit so more scratch building in my future. Well that's not entirely true. They do give you the oil tank that goes in the trunk that doesn't open so there is that.

I don't know if this is a runner for the cambelt JC or not.

I found these thinking I might use them for blower belt drives, but I haven't tried them.

They're obviously tiny elastic bands, but they might work especially seeing as you have pinned in the belt drive, it should be strong enough for the tension. I have tons of them, if you want any to try just shout.

Haven't though about tackling a Group 5 build Shay, cool idea though. I might take a swing at a "Taramac Special". They ran the Kugelfischer fuel injection like the car in your video. Not sure if they ran the fuel injection everytime out but they did at the '79 Monte Carlo

Do you mean that some Group 4 rally Escorts were injected?

You learn something new every day, I thought they all ran twin 40 or 45 Webers, goes to show what I know. LOL

You're a font of knowledge on the MK 2's JC. Were they more powerful or just better running?

No news on the Minilites yet then I assume.

I have read (3) of Graham Robson's books on the Escort; The Works Escorts, Works Escorts in Detail and Ford Escort RS1800-Rally Giants. I was bound to learn something!

They did run fuel injection on the rally cars on occasion and it did make more horsepower (272 bhp). Unfortunately it was not as reliable for rallying as the Weber carburetors.

I should have the low resolution printing of the Minilites soon to verify we got the size correct for the Esci kit. If that checks out we will then do the final high resolution 3D printing which will be the master for the resin casting. We're still a few weeks out from the final product.

I go over to the UK quite often. There are two four door Mk 2s almost next door that I only got to see lately. The 4 door shell is cheaper and easier to find.

Both are running 1800cc DOHC Zetecs, I thought I saw throttle bodies, but the guys said no, they're on Bike carbs. Never got pics.

Easy 150 bhp. There's no room under the bonnet for a brake servo! The whole conversion comes as a kit, less the engine and box. One crashed Mondeo for the engine and a Sierra gearbox and you're good to go.

They sound fantastic and go really well, but look like the car your Grandmother went shopping in :D

This is flippin' amazing! :o

If the US got the old RWD Escorts, they would be taken more seriously. The surviving FWD ones are a source of mockery and ridicule.

To be fair Jason, the MK 2 RS2000 was the fastest pure mass production model available.

It had the Pinto OHC 2 litre engine giving 110 hp. Got to 60 in about 8.6 seconds and was all out at 112 ish.

That's not going to impress many V8 Muscle car geezers, but we have different roads over here and these things would actually be faster point to point than a small block mid sized car while the big blocks are just understeering into the first ditch!

They're more fun than muscle. If you've ever really driven the balls off an early MX5-Miata it's a bit like that with more torque.

The 200+ bhp cars must be amazing to drive.

You know, when I came to this site I just wanted to know about how to get a glossier shine on my gloss coats. I had no earthly idea of all the stuff that I would not only be seeing while during my journey here but all of the things I would be picking up and learning along the way. It's guys like you and several others that have given the automotive model building experience as well as model building in general a whole new meaning to me. This sir JC, is some good stuff.

I put a lot into my builds and it’s always nice when someone acknowledges the effort. Thank you Joe.

I have been following your '70 Challenger T/A build - excellent work.

Another baby step. Found a decent alternator in the parts box. The alternator bracket isn't great but once all the belts are on it will be difficult to see anyway.

I like that alternator. The detail is really crisp on that!!

Me too Joe. I wish I knew what kit it came out of, I would like to have a few more. It was a mess when I found it covered with paint and glue. I cleaned it as best as I could.

Modified an engine mounted oil filter from the parts box to create a remote oil filter. It's finally starting to look like a proper engine bay.
