GeeBee Posted January 14, 2015 Author Posted January 14, 2015 Front seats and lower dash panel installed ....
GeeBee Posted January 23, 2015 Author Posted January 23, 2015 Not been in the hobby room for just over a week, as I've been re-arrange things in there, as well as having a display cabinet fitted on the wall. The door panels were masked off so the door handles and winder handles were airbrushed using Tamiya flat black, they need to be masked up again so the door pocket can be airbrushed in a darker brown.
microwheel Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 Your interior is coming along fantastic Geoff. I like your color choices. I know the feeling about trying to rearrange the hobby room. I have to do the same thing this coming spring. The wife and I are planning to gut this room out and completely redo it. When that happens, the projects will go on hold for a few weeks.
jbwelda Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 that's pretty unique, the rear view interior mirror mounted on the left side of the dashboard. how in the heck is that supposed to work? great and very inspiring job on the interior, and I am going to try that wheel alignment trick on my next build. I too hate when the wheels are not oriented properly jb
GeeBee Posted January 23, 2015 Author Posted January 23, 2015 that's pretty unique, the rear view interior mirror mounted on the left side of the dashboard. how in the heck is that supposed to work? I'm pretty sure that's something the owner has added, probably as a blind spot mirror, the interior mirror is mounted on the roof like most other cars
Randy D Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 Hello Geoff, Really nice looking interior !!!!! Randy

GeeBee Posted January 24, 2015 Author Posted January 24, 2015 (edited) Door panels, apart from the seat belts, are finished, the door pocket was airbrushed in the same shade as used for the seat faces, seat belt buckle was picked out using aluminium BMF .... Edited January 24, 2015 by GeeBee
GeeBee Posted January 25, 2015 Author Posted January 25, 2015 With the seatbelts finished, it was now time to get the interior finished, the side panels are held together by pins and tabs, and goes together without any problems, these later Revell Ag kits are very well engineered, Work has started on the dashboard, why did Trabants have to have coloured switches, much easier if they had just been black ....
Tom Geiger Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 Wonderful Interior Jeff! ROG put so much detail into that and it's a shame some of it doesn't really get seen once the interior is put inside the car... for instance the seat bases and the shifters between the seats. My favorite part is the seat belts. I could use a dozen sets of those to use on other modern car builds!
Foxer Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 Why don't more kits have modern hanging seat belts? Well, maybe because we keep crying for '50 cars eheh
Tom Geiger Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 I've tried to add modern belts to cars.. a real pain. I glued the belt up in the headliner, then had to try to glue it down on the floor through the window once the interior was in the body!
GeeBee Posted January 31, 2015 Author Posted January 31, 2015 (edited) Been cracking on with this one, the dash, interior and boot interior was all dry fitted first, once happy with everything, they were taken apart and fixed together using 5 minute epoxy, it's starting to look like a Trabant now, I can almost smell the 2 stroke fumes .... Rear lamps airbrushed using Tamiya clear orange and red acrylic Edited January 31, 2015 by GeeBee
GeeBee Posted February 2, 2015 Author Posted February 2, 2015 Nearly there now Geoff. Not too far until this one's finished Shay, been doing a bit of work airbrushing the lamps in various clear paints, got the front fog lamps finished, the reflectors were done using chrome BMF, the lenses were done using Tamiya clear yellow
Zarana-X Posted February 2, 2015 Posted February 2, 2015 (edited) Amazing work as usual. Your interior looks amazingly detailed. The body of these cars looks like someone got drunk and combined a Mini and an Anglia. Edited February 2, 2015 by Zarana-X
GeeBee Posted February 7, 2015 Author Posted February 7, 2015 (edited) Got the front end finished today, sadly the bonnet doesn't line up perfectly, but watching the video on Youtube of them building the Trabant, I think I didn't put as much pressure on the panels as they did at the factory Edited February 7, 2015 by GeeBee
dublin boy Posted February 7, 2015 Posted February 7, 2015 (edited) Nice tute on how to build old AMT kits Geoff Seriously though, that bonnet fit isn't good for a newish kit, something's way off somewhere. Edited February 7, 2015 by dublin boy
Guest Posted February 7, 2015 Posted February 7, 2015 Fascinating look at the factory. Thanks for sharing!
GeeBee Posted February 7, 2015 Author Posted February 7, 2015 Fascinating look at the factory. Thanks for sharing! If you have 37 minutes to spare, this is a much better film ...
GeeBee Posted February 8, 2015 Author Posted February 8, 2015 Rear end finished, not a lot to do to get the build finished now, door handles, mirrors, windows, after the rubber seals have been airbrushed on them, then a couple of wiper arms, and it will be ready to pop into the showcase.
microwheel Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 Nice work Geoff, bet your glad to see a light at the end of the tunnel on this one. Got to be a way to adjust the bonnet fit. Bet if you give it some thought you could get it to lay like it should. I sure wish my vette build was as far along as this one of yours. But hey I keep plugging along with it.
Tom Geiger Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 I noticed that the bonnet was tight once I put the headlight rings on. It seems to be catching on the back of those on my Universal.
