Yes, I've had a few parts request off Revell in the past, but if I get stuck, I can use the part out of the Universal kit I have, just had a look at the instructions and those parts are the same as the saloon version .... Too good for the original car (at least for the first few months) You would think so, but in truth the paintwork was pretty good from the factory, they used an acrylic enamel that was put through an oven, the shine was pretty good, I'll have to dig out the film I have that shows the Trabant being built. GeeBee Posted December 10, 2014 Author Share Posted December 10, 2014 Today I started on the trim at the top of the wings and doors, in real life this is a aluminium channel with a rubber strip inserted in the middle, I'm doing the trim using BMF aluminium foil, when it's finished, I'm going to mask off and touch in the rubber trim using a black art marker .... GeeBee Posted December 15, 2014 Author Share Posted December 15, 2014 (edited) After putting on the aluminium BMF on the trim above the wings and doors, I left it sitting on the side while carrying on with other jobs, I kept looking at it, and I knew I couldn't just leave it with the aluminium trim without any further work, it just looked wrong .... So with a deep breath and a lot of trepidation, I came up with an idea, but still wasn't sure if it would work, luckily it did, I masked off the body either side of the bmf and ran a broad tipped art pen, it took a few coats but it did the job, with the reflections going on, it didn't photograph very well .... Also got a few of the smaller parts sorted, as there are no chrome parts supplied in the kit, although to be honest there isn't any chrome parts on a Trabbi, but the headlamp reflectors needed a little more that the call out for silver paint in the instructions, so they were primed, (so the BMF had something to bite on to) and then covered in chrome BMF, then the bulbs were picked out using Tamiya clear yellow to replicate the bulbs, a black wash was added to the engine cylinders and ventilation grills that go onto the C pillars, Edited December 15, 2014 by GeeBee Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

As soon as Geoff saw it he wanted one. I wouldn't mind but he got his one cheaper! but he hasn't recieved it yet. I'll be home in a couple of days and can post pics of it if anyone is interested. GeeBee Posted December 30, 2014 Author Share Posted December 30, 2014 (edited) Managed to spend a little time in the hobby room yesterday, Both the front & rear bumpers need a bit of masking after they had been painted body colour, as the fog lamps are molded as part of the bumper, plus the end caps and overiders needed to be painted in satin black Once they had been airbrushed and the masking tape removed, they looked like this Heat exchanger painted, I really should have painted the parts first before glueing them together, as masking was a complete PITA ... GeeBee Posted December 30, 2014 Author Share Posted December 30, 2014 Tough break Geoff! I just looked at those parts on my finished chassis and again on the sprue on one of my other kits. The position that part is in on the sprue looks like it would be apt to be broken off. Look through anything in the box, that piece may be in there somewhere. I'm hoping ROG comes through, I understand they are good with customer service. Otherwise, maybe someone here who is building their Trabbie as a drag car and isn't using the stock chassis could help. There is a lot you can work on while you wait for the ROG chassis part. So keep on building! Luckily the part arrived from Revell U.K a few days ago, already got it primed and finished in satin black, now the work can commence on the chassis in the next day or so, I've only had to contact Revell a hand full of times, and every time they have come through with the parts required .... Been doing a little bit of the Trabbi over the last few days, a lot of time goes into masking, good ole Tamiya tape to the rescue, the seats will need masking again once the paint has dried so the head restraint can be painted matt black ... The front & rear seats are actually the same colour, the camera doesn't want to record them as such, the colour is more like the front seats .... GeeBee Posted January 2, 2015 Author Share Posted January 2, 2015 Spent a good few hours in the hobby room today, got the seats finished, the side door panels were airbrushed using Testors leather, still needs masking to paint the door handles etc ...
