I play harmonica and electric bass. I build bluegrass mandolins and archtop guitars in my basement. Finishing more than 50 instruments to near perfection has definitely helped me with my model finishing.

Played drums since I was 8. Tried guitar but the guy teaching couldn't handle me playing left handed.

They tried to pull that BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH with me when I was a kid. I promptly quit the lessons, turned the right handed guitar upside down, and taught myself. Its a dam shame that they do that to people. My boss is a victim of that, and it has greatly limited his playing ability. Availability of left handed instruments is no excuse. I have 37 guitars, 3 basses, a mandolin, a banjo, organ, and harmonicas. Only about 10 of my guitars are actually lefty, the others are upside down restrung. I would really like to know where these idiot guitar teachers and guitar store guys are indoctrinated to convert lefties. Just stock more left handed guitars and stuff it!!! Its hard enough with no left handed can openers, scissors, standard transmissions, refrigerators, slot machines, or cigarettes.

When I was 12 I wanted to play the guitar so my parents got me a folks guitar for Christmas. They hired a teacher and the first day she asked me to hold out my hands. She shook her head and said, "Short stubby fingers, you'll never play a guitar." And the sad fact was I believed her and never tried again. I still have that guitar though!

Thats a shame. Its a story all too common. I know a lot of people who were told they couldnt do it for one one reason or another. People love to discourage. Im sure someone told Jeff Healey that he would never be any good because he was blind. Im glad he didnt listen. Just remember, the drummer from Def Leppard only gots one arm, and Frank Beard plays in ZZ Top even though he doesnt have a beard. Limitations are only in the mind.

Forgot I had a Goya flat-top mahogany steel string acoustic back in the '60s. Beautiful guitar, but I never got much past playing a bunch of chords. And my fingers were a little too short for the width of the neck.

My first guitar was a 1965 "grand concert" size Goya with a spruce top and mahogany body. I bought it brand-new at a tiny hole in the wall music store downtown Seattle in 1979 for $105. It was a wonderful guitar.

I've been playing guitar for 50 years and have done hundreds of gigs with various bands, mainly in New Zealand in the 60s and 70s.

I haven't been in a band for 15 years but still play most days and jam with friends occasionally.

I have a Mesa Boogie Caliber 50w, a Fender Telecaster, Levinson Blade (Swiss Strat) and a Yamaha SBG1200.

I also have a Crafter (Korean) semi-acoustic.

Old picture... missing an acoustic, a squire bullet (fender strat) that I got for free, and a bass guitar/practice amp.

Also missing out of all this mess is a 2nd Peavey head and 4x12 sheffield cabinet which is at a friends house. I've acquired all this stuff soo cheap I cant even think about parting with it... even though I cant really play that well... Suppose I oughta rent it out HAHA

I've played drums for about 25 years. No bands, just for myself. I mostly play progressive metal, and progressive rock, with a little symphonic and power metal thrown in. Circus Maximus, Dream Theater, Sonata Arctica, Symphony X, etc.. just to name a few.

Me too. Here's a setup that I just recently sold. I miss them more than you might imagine.

My primary instrument is the bass guitar, but I also play a bit of six-string guitar. I've been told I can sing pretty well.

I do home recording, making songs with looped or programmed drums and electronic elements, multi-tracking my own performances on instruments and vocals. I have recorded a some covers, some originals and some re-mixes.

I've never played in a band, but my friends and I have contributed parts to each others' tracks. I have also done music and sound design work for a few stage productions, including some foley work.

I have a pal here in St Louis that buys and refurbishes old drums; Ludwig, Gretsch, Slingerland, etc. One of the local drum shops had a 28" Ludwig bass that was to die for, sounded like a cannon. Perhaps one day,...

I play just about anything low-brass in the San Angelo Community Band, Ice House Brass band, and various quintets, quartets, trios, whatever whenever I get the call (usually for heritage events at Fort Concho, as well as Christmas season being the most busy time of the year. I'm also the Merry TubaChristmas coordinator for San Angelo. I played in high school and for Air Force Basic Training Drum & Bugle Corps, but then didn't play a note for 19 years until I joined the Community Band in 2005 - haven't looked back since and enjoy the Hell out of it.

Here's an old shot of my low brass arsenal:

Clockwise from left: no-name Baritone Horn, Sterling Virtuoso Euphonium, Besson 3/4 Bb Tuba, Jupiter 4-valve Euphonium, Jupiter 3-valve Baritone, 1922 Conn 3G valve trombone, Blessing Marching Baritone. Since this pic, I've sold the Jupiter 3-valve and bought a Benge Studio Trombone. I'm working on finding a new(ish) 4-rotory valve full-size tuba, since I usually play a St. Petersburg on-loan from the Community Band during their concerts. I also need to send the Jupiter 4-valve to my friend's son for beginning band.

Just checking back in on this thread. There is alot of killer gear posted so far! Here are a couple of my guitars.

My main player. If the guys come over, this is most likely what I have in my hands. It can do just about anything I need.

I'm kinda partial to this one right at the moment. Been giving it alot of attention. You can't really tell from the pic, but the finish is transparent.

This one may not look like much but I'll take it to the grave with me. This was the first guitar I ever built from pieces. Plays like butter.

Very pretty! I wouldn't want to have to shlep all that though- I play a 4-piece set of '71 Ludwigs with 2 cymbals and a high-hat.
