Beeg Juanito Posted December 14, 2014 Posted December 14, 2014 This is an AMT Double Dragster kit Altered Fiat. The paint is one coat Testors and all the Chrome is dyed Gold and Clear coated. Everything is box stock except the Tires and Wheels and the little dude driving it!
hemi Posted December 14, 2014 Posted December 14, 2014 Very nice looking build , when you say the chrome is dyed gold can you tell me how you do this?
Beeg Juanito Posted December 14, 2014 Author Posted December 14, 2014 Very nice looking build , when you say the chrome is dyed gold can you tell me how you do this? I used to work for a major fishing lure mfg. and we used to "Chrome" (actually vacuum metalizing) the same process as doing the chrome parts for anything plastic. The "Dye" is a dye used to turn anything that has been chromed to Gold! You just dunk anything "Chrome" into a bucket of it, swish it around a bit (It takes just a matter of seconds), remove the parts, rinse them in water and lay them on a paper towel to dry.(That only takes a minute or so). When the parts are dry, you clear coat them and they're ready to go. I appropriated a small bottle of it when I retired. It's enough to last a lifetime (If I don't spill it) But even if I did, the good news is I can always get more!
1930fordpickup Posted December 14, 2014 Posted December 14, 2014 This car is nice. I like the gold chrome look.
10thumbs Posted December 14, 2014 Posted December 14, 2014 Hey John, That's a really cool looking old model! Amazing what a few extras can do to a kit. Could you tell us about the wheels? Where did they come from, or what from? I like. The fine tuning of the hood looks good too. Michael
Snake45 Posted December 14, 2014 Posted December 14, 2014 One of the more interesting DD Fiats I've seen. Did you shorten the kit's too-long nose along with your other changes? I can't tell. In one pic it looks shortened but in another it doesn't. Nice job either way.
vintagedragcrazy Posted December 14, 2014 Posted December 14, 2014 really nice build of one of my favorite kits of all time !!!!! vince

Dragster (not sure) The front tires came from my parts stash and I don't have a clue where they came from. Then I dyed them as well as all the "Chrome".

Fiat that I didn't reshape. (See the Grim Reaper Fiat) to compare.
johnbuzzed Posted December 15, 2014 Posted December 15, 2014 Really cool. I would be happy to have that on my shelf.
