BMF is, IMHO, the best stuff available to modelers for replicating chrome trim on models. Some people use other, cheaper products, and then some also use Alclad with an airbrush or in a spray can. If you do a search on this topic in the Forum you'll find plenty of information and tips and techniques on using it, along with other suggestions.

As a modeler recently attempting BMF myself, take your time. You will get frustrated when you first start using it as it is a patience tester.

Before you start on a painted body, practice on parts or bodies that are unpainted or started. That way you won't compromise any work that you've begun. As just about everyone has mentioned, brand new #11 blade, q-tip, and tweezers are necessities.

I love and hate this stuff. Love the look but hate to actually do it. There are several different finishes to be had. I use pretty much just the chrome and sometimes the aluminum ones. I do not care for the bright chrome and I find the black to be harder to work with. One thing that will make this job easier for you is to remember to use a sharp new blade so you get a clean cut. Good luck !

Get the "New Improved Chrome". Stay away from the "Ultra Bright Chrome". It's thicker & harder to work with. At least in my opinion the original stuff is the best. Take it from a guy who uses a lot of it!! :) Steve

x2 what Steven said. Stay away from the ultra bright. Several places online sell BMF. When I go up to Grand Rapids, MI to visit my Mom, I always go over to Rider's Hobby Shop. They sell BMF for $6.99 and I usually buy 3 or 4 packages of it. They might to mail order too.

I use make up applicators to burnish BMF. They're wrapped tighter than regular Q-Tips. One end is wide and flattened while the other end is pointed. I use ONLY Walgreens brand.

AD Lassiter (Cranky Old Modelers on FB) makes a fantastic little tool to run along the seams to make cutting easier. Some people also use sticks with a chisel point purchased from Michaels or Hobby Lobby.
