I love these cars. A singing two-stroke engine, burbling idle, bubbly body shape....

So naturally, I sought out a model kit of it.

I found that Air-Trax made one.

Anybody know if you can still get em?

If not, anybody got one?

If you haven't already, e-mail Tapani Rauramo at:

Yes, the AirTrax kits are expensive. No, these kits will not "fall together". A fair amount of out-of-the-box thinking will be needed.

I sent an email early this morning because I was up

It was around three or something... Got a reply within half an hour with a price chart for everything.

Somebody wanna front me €80 plus S&H? :)

If I get enough I would really like to get one.

They're expensive, but worth the money IMO. I have their Volvo P1800 (1961-62) and yes it will require some cleanup, but the casting is nicely done with no woefully numerous pinholes to speak of.

As John said, you'll have to think ahead of time of what needs done. BUT-----you'll have a model in the end that more than likely won't be seen elsewhere, and probably will never be kitted by the major model companies.

I have a type three VW Karmann Ghia from them that I hope to start up on soon. very nice piece and even came with cast metal bumpers.

I figure it will be a challenge but should be a fun challenge, and test fitting to a Tamiya ghia chassis looks promising. will probably put a quad cam Porsche engine in it, pancaked.

I've seen that some of the earlier castings are not perfect and require more cleanup than the newer ones. I have bought a couple of bodies that had been damaged in the molding process and they were actually so good that I had to go and ask Juha what was the problem with them. Only minor flash was present in my '59 Simca Vedette, it was easily removed and then the body required no filling or anything. Just a light wetsand before paint. Same thing with my '56 Studebaker and '69 Chrysler 300C.

>did the vw cylinder photo etch project ever get into production?

see the thread on the vw type 1 engine, but in a nutshell, have lost contact with Gio the guy who does them. and they are for the Porsche quad cam engine not a VW engine.

I am hoping something comes of them because I basically have them all sold as soon as they would arrive.
