So maybe have a Cannonball in Australia? Right hand drive optional? Add off-roading to the mix, so a hearty vehicle would be required?

Would one of our Aussie racers please come up with a course that would involve road and off-road to the tune of 2500 miles or so?

Give us a point A to point B?

Hey guys as Rob said I'll be handling next years Cannonball cbp. I've had a blast each year I've been in it and am very excited to get the chance to handle one. It will be my first time handling a cbp so please bare with me. I'll try to go off of Rob's example and try to do half as good a job as he has done.

With that said I'm really liking the ideas you guys are throwing around for next year. I'm keeping note of them and will get a poll up with the six most popular say second week in Dec.? Or after voting for this years winner is done. Give everyone two or so weeks for voting then getting the main thread started on the 1st? I know the thread is usually started sooner but would that be good with everyone?

Well Rob,

They just finished the "World Solar Car Challenge" here in Australia....the obvious route....Darwin to Adelaide which is just under 2000 miles or you could go from Sydney to Perth which is closer to 2500 miles ;)

The Darwin to Adelaide run would be much better, because your in the 'Outback' most of the time and plenty of opportunity to go off road....:)

Indeed a good reliable vehicle is needed and definitely RHD, makes it  more interesting to see what you come up with....

Here's the map

The second map shows the Ghan Rail route in red, the main highway pretty much runs parallel with this....your off road leg highlighted in yellow is old Ghan rail line.

Wow. This sounds awesome. It's shorter than your average Cannonball, but the off road portion bumps the difficulty quite a bit. I wasn't planning on participating next year, but if this theme is chosen, it might just change my mind. <_<

That Australia Cannonball would be interesting, but I'm not crazy about the Right Hand Drive thing. I'm afraid it will lower the number of participants if all cars must be RHD. Aussie-race is a good idea, but at least I'm out if car has to be RHD and I'm afraid I'm not the only one who feels this way...:(

You can register and drive a LHD vehicle here, as long as it is over 30 years old.

Seems as though it needs to be Left AND Right hand drive then!

My thoughts as I stated before was to keep it just RHD to make things interesting to see what members come up with and utilise their creative juices!!!

Either way I'm not fussed at all, should be great fun ;)

Better check my stash for a suitable vehicle!

Wow this is gonna be good

ill need to look for a kit that suitable cos i got nothing

What about Melbourne to Darwin Ray theres the great dividing range which is muddy and then the desert which is dry a real difference of terrains

Just thought I'd keep it simple Brayden!

There's so many routes that could be done, I was also thinking Perth to Darwin via the 'Canning Stock' route...now that would be the ultimate challenge!

Even the Sydney to Perth route would be awesome across the Nullarbor plain, quite a few opportunities to go off road...

But for now, lets just keep it Darwin to Adelaide....a simple straight run with a few challenges :)

ps: In the end, it's not my call and totally up to the forum members ;)

Well then it should be no problem, I'm in for sure B) !

Still in this one , lost interest for a while, but gave it a coat of paint today, i don't think it is going to be a sleeper anymore,

as it should really have a primer coat to look sleeper, but i could not do it, i just had to give it a nice paint job...

Looks awesome Dale!!

Hey guys, another reason I picked this route (Darwin to Adelaide) is the fact the speed limit in the Northern Territory or the 'Top End' as us Aussies say is 130 km/h (80 mph) and in certain areas the limit is unrestricted ;)!!

Dale that 40's looking real good. I'm glad you you went with the  Ferrari red it really fits the build. Don't think it hurts the look.

Hey Dale, slap some commercial decals on it and it would still be a sleeper.  And even so, who would suspect that kind of powerplant anyway?  Nice work!

Got a little done....

Grandad gold with a black vinyl roof...looks slow, even on the highway...lol

Also got the grilles and bumpers through the Alclad procedure...

More to come, now that frost is showing up on the pumpkins...

Have Fun

Cheers
