This is a model I finished a few years ago. It's a old Bandai modelkit and as many of the old Bandai car kit it is in 1:20 scale. The kit itself is quite nice, with whitemetal parts in the suspension, opeing doors, working suspension in the front, working steering and so on. This kit is a lot better than other 1:20 Bandai kits I got but I have also seen their 1970s Mazda and Toyota kits and they look even better.

Thank you very much guys :)

The Bandai kits where also sold under the boxname Entex in the states.

Here is a Bandai boxed version on Ebay at the moment:

And here is a Baja version of the kit, much rarer and more expensive, I want one of the Bajas as I don't have one yet.

It's a nice build.

Petty that even being a 1:20 it lacks so many detail when compared let's say to a Tamiya or Revell Beetle, in smaller scale. One thing they could had done better are the door hinges, that look way too big, and the front bumper, that also looks out of scale.

Yes, it's not the best kit in the world I'm afriad, but it's also quite old. Comparing it to kits like the Tamiya 66 I think will be wrong as the Tamiya kit is from the 90s and this is from the 70s. Comparing it to the Aoshima/Imai 1:24 1303 and this looks far better. But I enjoyed it and got two more of these kits so I will build more in the future. Got plans for a "late-looker" (cal-looker based on a after-67 beetle) with Porsche Fuchs wheels, lowered suspension and no bumpers and trim. Also thinking of converting it to a left hand drive model.

Nice job with that kit.

Looks to me like Bandai got the windshield and rear window wrong - both look too big. The windshield appears to continue too far into the roof, almost like a 'wrap-over' windshield rather than a 'wrap-around.'

I think I will agree with you. Looking at pictures of 1:1 cars it does look like it is too high up into the roof:

Interesting kit. Are those the turn signals on the cowl, rather than the front fenders? Did the carpet in the trunk come with the kit? Or is that something you added? And see that it's right hand drive, does the kit offer the option for left hand drive?

I don't think it's wrong to compare it to the Tamiya from the '90s. Good kit engineering and accuracy doesn't depend on time.

A fine example is the AMT 1957 Ford Fairlane 500 Club Victoria, a '60s tooling that is so accurate on it's body forms and contours I still think it's better in that department than the Revell 1957 Ford Custom Tudor kit, that is from 2012.

Most AMT annuals, derivative from the respective Promos from the '60s were dead on accurate body wise, of course not being as detailed and not having as many parts as more modern kits, but body accuracy is just the problem this Beetle has.
