James2 Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 (edited) Thought I'd start the new calender year with a WIP, this the AMT Texaco 3100 pick up kit. So far I've: Shortened the bed 6 scale inches, smoothed the body and removed all hardware, re-skinned the tailgate, added an Olds front bumper, swapped the headlights and set it on some nice Caddy wheels and white wall tires. The real change will be the chassis, it will have running/rolling gear from a "67" Corvette. Edited March 22, 2015 by James2
1930fordpickup Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 Looking good . Great way to start the new year.
slusher Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 Like the wide whites and caps James are they from the 49 Revell Merc??
Dirty Dave Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 I like it. Can't wait to see what it gets for paint.
bpletcher55 Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 James I like what you have done so far . is that rear bumper off the amt 55/57 chevy ?
James2 Posted January 3, 2015 Author Posted January 3, 2015 Thanks Blair, and it is. I shortened it and reshaped the ends some. Not sure if I like it yet, might be to much bumper...
James2 Posted January 4, 2015 Author Posted January 4, 2015 (edited) Just a little mock up with the 427 and I believe some Camaro seats and console. If you notice I glued up the body completely. So in order to fit the interior I cut a section out of the back to allow the tub to squeeze in place. That allows me to do all the body work and paint before final assembly. I will say it is tight but fits nicely. I'll try something with those door panels next. Edited January 4, 2015 by James2
slusher Posted January 4, 2015 Posted January 4, 2015 Very nice James, what Camaro seats did you use?? I like it...
slusher Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 Thanks Carl... Thanks James. I have one of these 50 chevy trucks and trying to get some ideas and tips brother...
James2 Posted January 6, 2015 Author Posted January 6, 2015 Worked on the interior some, made new door panels from styrene and removed the latch and crank from a 32 Ford interior. Got the seats sitting nicely also.
bpletcher55 Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 looks good JAMES , did you remove the window and door handles from the revel 32 ,s or use resin handles for a 32 ford ? it looks awesome .
James2 Posted January 7, 2015 Author Posted January 7, 2015 Thanks guys, yes Blair I reversed the curve of the panels and then sliced slowly with a #11. Be careful not to lose a finger but don't let the piece get away!
bpletcher55 Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 thanks JAMES ,I use to do that now I use one,s from other kit,s or resin one,s .I,m looking forward to this build as you go along .
James2 Posted January 10, 2015 Author Posted January 10, 2015 Here is the interior, a little old and new mixed together. I might add some belts or something but I'm happy with it. They are hard to see once in the body anyway.
72 Charger Posted January 10, 2015 Posted January 10, 2015 Looking great James . I like the new rear windows ,How did you cut them out?
James2 Posted January 11, 2015 Author Posted January 11, 2015 Thanks Dave, I wish I had thought of that but that was GM's idea. Here's a shot of the engine bay, not that hard to shoe horn in there. I even managed to use the stock exhaust manifolds.
slusher Posted January 12, 2015 Posted January 12, 2015 I really like the interior. Real nice touch on the shifter..
