CAL Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 Just curious how many out sacrifice looks for accuracy.
Brendan Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 I think it depends mainly on what you are building. If you're building a replica of the car, you want to get it as accurate as possible. But sometimes accuracy cuts into the appearance of the kit. It's like a double edge sword. You want to make it look good as well as trying to keep it accurate. There needs to be some midpoint between accuracy and appearance. I've seen people who have done kits with so much detail and accuracy that it kind of clutters the kit. It's neat that they did that and all but the overall appearance looks cluttered. It makes me lose focus on what the kit is. Just my opinion.
Harry P. Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 Your question is hard to answer. A 100% accurate part would also look good! Accuracy and good looks are not mutually exclusive! However, there are some things that just can't be done accurately while keeping it in scale. Some smaller details of a 1:1 car would literally almost disappear in 1/25 scale. Trying too hard to recreate every last nut, bolt, clamp and wire is where many modelers make a big mistake. They go through an incredible amount of work "superdetailing" the model, but some of the details are just not in scale...and in the end, because the added detail is usually too big and clunky (out of scale), the model winds up looking less real rather than more real! The most "realistic" models I've seen have quite a few details that are present on the real car missingon the scale version. Knowing when to quit when it comes to detailing is an art...it's hard to get it just right between not enough detail and going overboard.
CaseyG83 Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 LOOKS ALL THE WAY! thats why I switched to cars from planes, most aircraft builders don't like it a whole lot when you paint your p-47 in ww2 navy tri-color camo cause it looks good. A much as i love planes i like the creativity cars allow. Casey
cruz Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 I think is one of the reasons I admire guys like Bill Geary, Norman Veber and the late Augie Hiscano among others, they never went overboard on the details at the same time maintaining everything down to scale. There are a lot of things on a model that are just impossible to maintain to scale. One reason I don't like to take pictures under the sun when using metallic colors on my models is exactly that, no matter what paint you use, the metallics will never be to scale on these models.
Zoom Zoom Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 I go for good looks, and if they're accurate, all the better.
BKIN10SECS Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 I go for good looks, and if they're accurate, all the better. Thats what I'm talking bout......
