Tom Geiger Posted March 8, 2015 Posted March 8, 2015 Looking good! Great progress and we're all rooting for ya! BTW, credit for my process goes to Irv Arter, who wrote the article that I followed. Anyone who wants a copy, just PM me your email address and I'll send you the PDF.
Sledsel Posted March 8, 2015 Posted March 8, 2015 This is looking really nice. Detailing is outstanding Been watching this build because I have one on the shelf I need to get too. As an FYI, original Fords (and correctly restored ones) the valance in front should be argent silver.
IceMan Collections Posted March 8, 2015 Author Posted March 8, 2015 Thanks guys. Actually, Andy, Argent silver on the valance is only for the pickups. The wagons had it match the body color. At least form the research I did for this one, it's what I found. But now on to the progress. Plenty of pics from this morning's hours at the bench. First I have the trailer. Added a bit of color and thinking about matching the wood here and there. Still cant decide. Got some work done on the interior also in between wood panel coats. Needs a little more work, though.
IceMan Collections Posted March 8, 2015 Author Posted March 8, 2015 And here, is the wood panel work as well. I do have to say this is the best process I have learned. The panels were flat and this process has given them some depth and a nice wood look. I personally like the way its coming out. Beginner's luck maybe? lol I hope not. Thanks again, Tom. Here is the way it looked after the tan color was added. ...and then color wood.... ...and next the color Leather. Some black to finish it off in the next few days. Thanks for following along guys.
IceMan Collections Posted March 9, 2015 Author Posted March 9, 2015 And here's the next step for the wood panels. Just needs to be sealed. The next few night I'll be repairing the parts where the paint lifted. Thanks for looking.
Sledsel Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 That wood grain is looking good. How good is all the fitment of the body to the chassis? I have had some overly thick resin bodies I needed to grind the BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH out of. As for the valance, they were silver, even in the cars. The valance was added after body paint and assembly, and by them all being silver, they did not need to try to match to each car. They were like this from 49 well into the 60's (my friends all original 66 Galaxie has a silver valance/filler panel) This car is supposed to have its original paint. http://barnfinds.com/original-paint-1953-ford-country-sedan/ A 53 that matched your build, with only 13,000 miles was in the BJ auction and the valance was silver. 1954Ford.com has some really knowledgeable people for this era Ford.
slusher Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 Man the wood looks great Iceman. Nice progress...
IceMan Collections Posted March 10, 2015 Author Posted March 10, 2015 Thanks Carl. I couldn't wait to get home from work to get to the bench. I wasn't going to, but decided I'm this far in, why not do the rest of the brown around the windows. Although a little more peeling happened with the taping, not too much to disappoint me. I knew it was coming. Cleaned the airbrush and tackled the spot paining as well. Still needs some sanding as you can see some of the spots but a good save in my opinion. Once I sand those spots and clear it all, it should look better. Some touching up is required here and there. then off to foil....ugh ooh boy!
southpier Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 where's this alleged valance everyone's talking about? is it the filler between the bumper & grille?
IceMan Collections Posted March 11, 2015 Author Posted March 11, 2015 It is, joe. Will hardly even see it. Worked on this me a little bit more. Scripts are on. Very small sanding here and there and cleared it! Here are some pics.
Curt Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 Wow, that clear coat really made it pop, Joel! It is looking beautiful.
charlie8575 Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 Excellent recovery! Were those scripts supplied with the body? I was also wondering who made your trailer? I like it. Charlie Larkin
IceMan Collections Posted March 13, 2015 Author Posted March 13, 2015 Thanks everyone. Your words are encouraging. Charlie - the scripts are the the MCG 57 Ford PE set and the trailer is JF. I hope to get some windows added this weekend.
southpier Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 i like the wood grain going front to back rather than up & down. been quite a project to follow but the "stick-to-it-ivness" is definitely paying off.
66belair Posted March 14, 2015 Posted March 14, 2015 I don't know how I missed this one. Beautiful work and I love that wood paneling. I also love wagons!
Roadrunner Posted March 14, 2015 Posted March 14, 2015 What a classic. I may have to look into getting one of these. Looks great so far.
IceMan Collections Posted March 17, 2015 Author Posted March 17, 2015 Thanks you guys. Here is a little more work finally. Small details starting to come on. The trailer is about done. I think I found some nice wheels for it. Does it sit too high? What do you think?
charlie8575 Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 LOVE it! That looks superb together. Charlie Larkin
