Ron Hamilton Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 I have been following Steve Guthmiller's beautiful '65 Chrysler 300 elsewhere on this forum, and judging from his past work, it's going to be a knockout. I restored this JoHan '65 Chrysler 300 Hardtop from a glue-bomb several years ago, and pulled it off of the shelf last night to photograph it.. I painted it with Black Lacquer, and added a Model Car Garage Black vinyl roof. The interior was done in white, trimmed in black, using photographs from my trusty '65 Chrysler brochure. I can truly tell ya, there is a lot of bare metal trim on this one. While the finish has a nice shine, I did not put a lot of paint on it, as I have found that JoHan plastic is very brittle, and cannot stand the rigors of a hard polish job. I've cracked a few while preparing the bodies for paint. I love the mid '60's Chrysler products, and I plan to do several of them in the near future while I can afford them. This one may be my next victim. Here's where we are today, thanks to the Modelhaus. And this is what I plan to do with it. Britt Reid (aka The Green Hornet) with his '66 300 Convertible.
disabled modeler Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 I love those 65,66 Chrysler 300s looks....never was able to find any though...bummer.
Mopar - D Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 Ron great looking black 65 and good progress on your glue bomb. Looking forward to see this one done.
cruz Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 Very cool my friend, another classic out of your extensive collection!
StevenGuthmiller Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 Very cool Ron! It looks great in black! I'm in the final stages of polishing mine right now & you're right, I've been looking at the trim & realizing that there's plenty of foil on this one too! But at least it's all nice & straight for the most part. I have the '66 as well, which is the body style I really like! But I decided I could only build so many Chrysler 300s in a row & thought I'd get the less favorite one out of the way first. That way I wouldn't lose interest when I come back later to build the '66. I just recently built the '64, am working on the '65, and have the '62 & '66 slated for the bench this year. I also have a '63, '67 & '68 that I hope to build within the next couple of years to finish up the Johan 300 "lineup". Recently, I've been working on the mid 60s Plymouth line up also. I recently added a '67 & '66 Fury to the collection & am pretty excited about getting started on them as well. Very nice Job Ron!! Steve

Steve Steve, I'm a little jealous in that I do not have that one anymore. However, I do have these waiting in the wings... As well as some i did not take pictures of, such as a Resin 1966 Fury lll Hardtop, and a built-up 1966 Fury lll Convertible, a '66 Dodge Monaco, a resin 1968 Fury lll hardtop, and I still have an unbuilt Johan '68 Fury l Police car. If you notice the '65 Fury has the skirts removed. It was that way when I bought it. I picked it up from a fellow who lived a half a mile from where I worked. He built models before he went to Vietnam in the late '60's. He had several '65 and '66 Dodge Monacos he built back in the day, which he wanted to restore, but at the time I bought this, He was selling off his collection to finance some Pocher Kits. I'm going to see if I can polish this one up a little better... It's got a hint of orange peel, that I may be able to do without a re-paint. And we have not covered the pre-'65 Mopars I have, nor the Imperials.
StevenGuthmiller Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 Great stuff Ron! I've got that gold '65 Monaco hardtop on the list for this year too. The '66 Plymouth I just picked up is a convertible, otherwise, all of mine are hardtops. I don't know, I guess I have a thing for hardtops. Either that or a convertible with an up top, which the Plymouth has. Along with all of the Mopars, I still have to fit in a '58 Ford, '59 Bonneville & a '61 Starliner. I have a lot to do this year! Steve
peekay Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 Beautifully done, Ron! Looks SO right in black. I also love the older Chryslers and Imperials - should have a black 57 300c ready to post soon.

As soon as the weather warms up, paint will fly, as I paint outdoors to keep the fumes out of the house. My wife and I have respiratory problems.
bbowser Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 Wow, both you guys do some outstanding work on those 300s. Keep them coming!
StevenGuthmiller Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 Wow, both you guys do some outstanding work on those 300s. Keep them coming! If you like 300s Bruce, I've got a butte load of them coming up. Probably in this order. '65, '62, '66, '67, '63 & '68. Not all right in a row mind you. I do have some other stuff I want to build, but I hope to get them all done in the next couple of years. I still need to do a '56 & '57 at some point also. Steve
Guest Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 Nice work Ron! It looks really good in black paint! I've been after a '68 for a while now to build a custom with.
