Nice job on the paint. That's the hardest thing about this kit. I screwed up on mine a couple of times and had to redo it. Everythings looking good. But where's the red striping?:blink: I would have mine done by now. ;)

That's the next step. I'll try using the decal stripes.

Thanks,

The kit decals are excellent. The only area I had a problem with was going around the air inlets on the side of the car. I can't wait any more. I want to see this car done. ;)

Looking great! Makes me want to build mine more and more. Sure glad I got one; this is definitely a kit I'd be kicking myself for not getting while it was available.

Great job so far. This really is a beautiful racecar, I am glad I got to see it race. It really was a Lola, they made some beautiful cars over the years. On interesting thing about these full ground effects cars was the brake lights did not come on untill they were in the turn not before it. The ground effects made for very effective braking.

Hey, my buddy, perfect colors demarcation, it's look like will be another bomb to your already impresive arsenal. This kind of work it's the one pump me to keep trying to do my best.

Bien bravo...como siempre!

Hello,

Since all the attention was on the body, I forgot I still had to do the rest of the car :P

So here is the start of what will not be seen afterwards

Hi Ismeal

In The very first mock up pic right at the start of the post there appears to be some sort of support under the rear wing other than the ones that are suppose to be there, just wondering if they are part of the kit or is something you made ????

Hi Mal,

You mean in this pic?

For this mockup the rear spoiler was supported by an exotic "airbrush cup"

Thanks,

No I was looking at the things to the outside sitting between the end ot the wing and the rear quarter panel

Mal

In that pic the wing is only supported by the airbrush cup. There is nothing else touching it. There is a square polishing pad laying flat behind the car. Maybe that's what you mean?

The more I work on this car the more I love this kit! What a joy to work with!

I really wish Quick Skins can come back. Last I heard he was in the process of getting a new place and start again.

The back end is ready. The tires are for proportion purposes only. I haven't worked on them yet. Added oil line.

Heading out of town now so I want to take this opportunity to wish you all a Happy Easter!

Hey Ismael. Good work. I remember you from the HH board. You made a ZO6 trans in resin for me way back when. You've done some really good Corvette work in the past, and I think this project will turn out quite nice as well. I'll be lookin' in every now and then...Good luck.

Thanks Rich, wow that Z06 tranny brings a lot of good memories!

No pics today, but the roof was refinished... for the 3rd time!!! ;)

It's now resting before polishing and..... why not? maybe a 4th time ;):P:lol:;)

Thanks,

Ismael. What do you think of the old UMI Modelwerk version of the Corvette GTP? Is it buildable, or is it just too crude? I've had one on the shelf for several years now and wondered it it was worth the considerable effort to build a decent shelf replica. The decal sheet is quite nice, as are the wheels, but the body leaves something to be desired.

Rich,

That model is known to carry a deadly virus and it is very dangerous! I am certified to do the proper disposition, so pack it up carefully and send it to me for disposal! :o

I've never seen the UMI up close, but I remember seeing pictures of a nicely built sample a while back, so I think it should be buildable. How much effort, I don't know. Do you have more pictures of the body and the parts? I'm curious.

Thanks,

I'll take a few & post them soon. I guess anything can be built with proper effort...I just gotta put my mind to it. The thing is essentially a block of resin.

OK, I'll be very honest: I'm falling in love with this car :):D

Once the red stripes are finished I'll check if any touch up is needed. I'm heading out for the weekend (I'll be camping and playing boy scout :)) but I'm confident this car can be finished within the next two or three weeks.

The car looks fantastic. I've been fortunate enough to see the real car in person.

Fotki pics

It is a beautiful car in person. It's amazing that a GTP car could retain a lot of the original car. You don't get to see that much. I can only think of the Mercedes CLK's and Porsche 911GT1's that flow as good as the originals if not better. BTW, for those that want to see this car, it is sitting in the Hendricks Motorsports Museum in Concord, NC.

Nic,

Thanks a lot! You have one of the best set of reference pictures I've seen of the car.

Chassis number 8610/01 was named "Spirit of Charlotte" for its first race in Charlotte NC in May '86. It finished 4th. That's the same car that eventually won West Palm beach in June '86.
