I'm wondring how many of you collect and-or wear vintage clothing ; and , what era(s) is / are your preference(s).

For me , I've long loved the 1960's Mod fashion . To wit ; I've been trolling eBay , etc. , for a pair of Renauld Sea & Ski Spectaculars , the first wrap-around sunglasses (from c.1964) :

I had a pair in the mid-90's , but they were stolen at a party in 1996 ( ) .

I was inspired to find a pair after seeing one of my favourite musicians ( Holmes Sterling Morrison , Jr. ) wearing them (far-left in this photo from 1966) :

I hunt in Goodwill. It's affordable, the cash goes to good causes, and there's interesting gubs to be had.

I've found a Vietnam Airborne army jacket in there. No rips at all, $5. Fits like a glove.

Been looking for a Pendleton "Dude" sweater, too, but talk about pricey.

I'd like to find some bowling shirts, too. I've been into the Hawaiian shirts lately, a sorta retro thing. Scarface, 80s gangsters... Plus they're comfortable and they're a standout in the snowy Maine winter.

Some old Ray-Ban Wayfarers or an original Casio calculator watch would be top.

I've got a airbrushed hot rod shirt by Reinero from 1977 and an opening day shirt from Baylands Raceway Park 1981. They've stayed with me all these years. Thats the closest to vintage clothing I've got.

Somewhere I have the leather flying helmet and goggles my dad wore in WWll.

I have a recently acquired female friend who's into the '50s look, but she does the big-girl, grown up and sophisticated thing, like this...

rather than the poodle-skirt thing, like this... 1956-poodle-skirts1.jpg

The whole nine yards too. She makes me very happy I can still see. :) Oh yeah...and smell her Chanel. B)

I inherited a bunch of my Grandpa's old clothes including some nice vintage Pendletons, and they all fit me great.

I also have a burgundy sharkskin jacket that rocks

Nope...... I'm most comfy wearing sweatshirts and sweatpants around the house. When I go out of the house I'll usually put on a pair of comfy jeans and sneakers. For "holidays" I'll sometimes wear a pair of Dockers slacks and a buttoned shirt. I haven't worn a dress shirt / tie / suit in about 8 years. I have a "Mr. Rogers" type cardigan sweater that I wear all the time that my wife complains about. I take 2 different blood thinners daily so I usually always feel chilly.

Oh dear...."and smell her chanel".

You wanna hear what a chanel is in another language?

:D

"What's in a name? that which we call a rose

By any other name would smell as sweet " Shakespeare, Romeo and Juliet B)

And I'm pretty sure dog vomit would still smell like dog vomit even if its translation in another language meant "essence of springtime in paradise" ;)

....what's in a name? Dog vomit? Yuck.

"Ash on an old man's sleeve
Is all the ash the burnt roses leave.
Dust in the air suspended
Marks the place where a story ended". T.S.Eliot

Bye.

Your quite the fortunate man, Bill! My most recent female friend saw nothing wrong with birkenstock sandals worn with socks. I mean, birkenstocks? Ugh....

You guys are a riot. :D I'm still trying to figure out what she sees in me...forever suspicious of any little good fortune, you know? I think it may be that a couple of things I fixed for her actually worked afterwards and stayed fixed. Like Red Green says,

Me too. Whenever I'm having a really good day, I always have this nagging suspicion that I'll end up getting run over by a bus.
