Just this afternoon, I got the Moebius "Jonny Quest Dragonfly/Quest Labs Supersonic Suborbital Aircraft" model. Another home run for Moebius. A very nice and simple kit. Only 13 plastic parts, including the stand. Plus, one decal for the base. I've already have done all the major pre-painting subassembly. Everything goes together beautiful. Two minor parts are down stairs with paint on them already. As noted, a very simple kit. Assembly without painting would take less than an hour. But, it's very well designed with fairly good details. Wonderful panel engraving.

The only hard thing I can foresee on this kit is masking the little windows in the clear molded canopy, for painting. Should not be a major problem. Just a bit of a pain. I'm thinking Bare Metal foil, unless somebody has another idea.

Fun kit. I paid just under $30.00 with shipping. Well worth the price.

Move over Mr Bannon. I'll take over the controls from here.

13 parts, $30 and everyone is happy. Why does Moebius even bother with car kits?

Scott, you beat me to it. I am going to finish up my 24 hour build and hopefully, do my Dragonfly next. What color did you paint yours? Bright white, off-white? Are you going to post any WIP pics? I am looking forward to seeing how yours comes out.

I will be painting mine in Tamyia's TS-26, Pure White. And sorry, I'm one of those who is unable to post pictures to this site anymore.

Scott, have you worked on this model yet? If you have, have you found anything "funky" with the palstic? I have a couple of spots on mine where it looks like the plastic is flaking off. It is weird, I have never seen plastic do this before. As I try to lightly sand those spots away, it almost seems to flake off even more :blink:

I had that happen on an Italeri B-25. The plastic seemed to be delaminating. My theory is that the styrene was shot into a too-cold mold, and the outer layer cooled and "skinned over" differently from the rest. The kit was unusable.

No problems with mine. The plastic is fine on mine.

Thanks for the reply, Snake. That theory sounds plausible. I am going to shoot some primer over the area and see how it reacts.

Good luck. I'd be courious to hear how it turns out. Even though my kit is not showing the problem. But, as Snake pointed out, it can happen with other kits. So it would nice to hear about end results. Please keep us posted.

Hi Scott! I am by no means trying to hijack your thread. Just wanted to give you all a quick update. I just shot primer and so far everything look OK. I can now see a few divets where the plastic flaked off. I will fix them with some Mr. Surfacer. I guess I should start my own thread so you can see what is going on with my Dragonfly. <_<

Thanks again for the replies!

Your not hijacking my tread. This tread is for everybody interested in the Dragonfly model. If there is a problem with some of the kits, it's nice to know. It's also nice to know how to fix any problems with the kits. If your hijacking "my" tread, I say go for it. I want to know more about your problem and how you resolve it.

I started mine too. It's a fun build. The fit is excellent. I'm at the fill, file, sand, and repeat too many times phase. I'm using Tamiya masking tape on the windows and it seems to be working.

There's a build review of the kit in the current issue of FineScale Modeler.

I'm not planning to get one, but if I were, I think I'd take the comically excessive dihedral out of the wings and build them flat (or perhaps even with slght anhedral), and cut down the ridiculously oversized fin to about half its current size.

Finished mine Tuesday, just in time for this month's model car club meeting the next night. Turned out pretty nice. The guys in the club seemed impressed. Although they were disappointed that I didn't make little figures for in cockpit. I think they were joking? :)
