just-bill Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 It has been over 35 years since I built my last model. Just bought a Moebius Lonestar to get back in the game. I "want" to stretch, lower, custom fenders, working doors, etc, but ,I will just build it stock so I wont get in over my head for now.
Jim B Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 You made a good choice to get back in the game with, so welcome back! Do yourself a favor, though. Go onto the Revell of Germany Website & download the instructions for their version of the LomeStar. They are a lot easier to follow than the Moebius instructions & it's the same kit.
tbill Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 you will enjoy building that kit, look forward to seeing your progress. and welcome back to building
cowboy rich Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 If you want too stretch it out there plenty of pics on here and as may already know petetrucker07(Clayton) has mostly a lowered fleet(very nice work) oldbuckaro(Sean) is also a wealth of knowledge. Plenty of help just ask everybody is here to help.
Petetrucker07 Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 Good luck with your build. It's a very nice kit. Watch for the cab mounts, they have tendency to get "goofy". I had to lower the front mounts on my Lonestar to get the cab to sit level and the hood to line up properly. Welcome back to the hobby. Don't be afraid to ask me or anybody questions.
RubiconGuy11 Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 Welcome back to the hobby, I just started again after 30 some years as well. Looking forward to seeing your builds. Good luck!
suggy60 Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 Welcome back to the hobby. Have to agree on the comment about using Revell instructions, I'm building this model at the moment and am using the Revell instructions as couldn't follow properly the Moebius ones.
Mopar - D Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 Bill welcome back to the hobby and to the MCM fourm. Good luck on your build.
just-bill Posted March 5, 2015 Author Posted March 5, 2015 Wow, I definately don't have the patience or eyesight, that I used to have, for painting the engine parts. Thanks for the Welcome and the tips.
just-bill Posted March 26, 2015 Author Posted March 26, 2015 This is where I am at now. A little stretch and a little lower. Body is also painted. A little light on some of the detailing. Just too hard to see some of the little things.
tbill Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 Bill, welcome to the 'can't see BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH anymore' club, lol. pick up a cheap magnifying lamp or a visor, helps a lot for the small stuff. it's looking real good so far, look forward to seeing more.
gatorincebu Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 Glad to see another older person return to the hobby! yes our eyes are not what they used to be. Can't hear as well, and the hands aren't quite as steady as they could be. But having a hobby is good for the soul!! Nice start on this project. Be Well Gator
Ken Gilkeson Posted March 29, 2015 Posted March 29, 2015 I need my glasses plus an extra lamp about a foot away. hehe ;-D
Mopar - D Posted March 29, 2015 Posted March 29, 2015 Bill nice start on the frame looking forward to seeing more progress.
fantacmet Posted March 29, 2015 Posted March 29, 2015 Don't be hard on yourself, while I may not be a fan of the styling of the Lonestar, you are doing a good job so far. I haven't even started on my Prostar(which from what I can tell is almost the same kit), because stretching and lowering it intimidates me, and I want to do that too it, because I have a specific vision in my head of what I want. The AMT's are easy to do. Judging by your work I'd say no more than 35 months, not 35 years. You sure you ain't fibbin just a little.
