Thanks for the comments fellas. I'll be working on a remedy for the paint but in the meantime I had it pointed out to me on another forum politely that I didn't have any registration decals on the license plate which I had totally overlooked. I've got the decals cut out and will be applying those tomorrow morning. I've also got another front bumper coming from Revell. After three freekin' bumpers the 1st one had a bunch of dots in it, the 2nd one had injector pin marks from hell in it and the 3rd had the chrome finish worn off from the high points/ corners. I was going to alclad the front and rear bumpers but decided not to as I'm still working on scrap pieces trying to perfect the "chrome" finish. I must've got lucky on the wheels is all I gotta say.

As for the fire extinguisher I've got that underway as well. In looking at the pictures it looks like I need a light wash to bring out the detail where the nozzle area is. I'll be taking care of that tomorrow as well. I BMF'd the retaining straps this morning and folks I'll tell you this. Trimming BMF is one thing but when you're doing it on a magnet and it keeps wanting to pull the X-Acto blade towards the magnet it makes it that much more difficult. By having a drill bit in the bottom of the extinguisher I was able to hold the extinquisher still while making the cuts. Anyways here we are so far with that...

Thank you Dave!

And the registration decals are on.............................

The top of the plate is a little uneven but there aint no way to see it with normal vision. I need 1.5x corrected vision normally and I couldn't tell with the glasses on. I did some more work on the passenger door hinges as far as paint goes but progress was a little slow this morning.

Thanks for the good word Brian. Before I test fitted the fire extinguisher in place I had to modify the fuel tank behind the drivers seat as it was just too wide and the fire extinguisher would not have fit in the corner of the cab behind the drivers seat. I ended up sectioning a part out of it. I wasn't too awful worried about a perfect job here as this part of the fuel tank will never be able to be seen.

Now I can move the whole thing over towards the passenger side a smidgen and the extinguiser'll be able to fit in that corner.default_biggrin.png

I was at the point the other day to where I was going to install those inner wheel wells that I had been working on a couple of months ago and the suckers wouldn't fit. All that work to them and the body could not be installed with them in place. I had pondered the idea of leaving them out but that looked cheap and unfinished. The initial thoughts to remedy this started here....

Followed by some action with cutting out a part that resembled the plastic piece except only from the firewall forward.

So far I'm liking the results. In the foreground you can see what the lack of the inner fender wells makes the engine compartment look like and the update on my "test mule". (This is the same blue body that I started out with. I stripped most of the blue off it with brake fluid)

I managed to get the R/H side cut out and formed this morning. More shots with the test mule...

Now I'm at the point to where I don't know if I want to Alclad them or cover the inner sides with Chrome BMF. I still have some learning to go with Chrome Alclad......we'll see....icon_hmm.GIF

-NICE soda can aluminum work! (PLEASE, don't take this the wrong way) but, why? The kit itself doesn't come with inner fender wells?

I can tell you, I'll be trying this for one of my own builds I think! we'll see! (I'll be sure to mention this build for the inspiration to my own! IF I use this idea!)

Thanks Carl! :D

John: It does come with fenderwells but they wont fit right because I chose to glue the firewall to the frame and not the cab(the way the instructions show to). If would have glued the firewall to the cab I would have had a nasty gap to contend with in the interior flooring. This way I avoided that gap but induced another issue which I'm addressing this way. I've seen a guy use Arizona Tea Cans (I credit a fella named Fermis for this trick) this way to fabricate PE for aircraft projects so I figured , "What the hek." I'll use the idea for automotive subjects.

Nice work on the fenders . Would you be able to polish them up ?

That is an option that I haven't thought of.....

Joe, AHHHH-HUH I see now. but could you have shortened the inner fender wells to accommodate the issue? OR was it because the shape of them not fitting the firewall as made? (Excuse my ignorance I haven't EVER built one of the '56 Ford trucks! I'm merely trying to understand the model itself!) BUT then if you had, I wouldn't have seen what your doing here, SO, its a win for me if and when I get to that point on my own model that needs inner fender wells. -Just haven't decided if I'm gonna add inner fenders or not at this point! (I'm back to building my "Father & Son" set......... YAY!!!!!!!!!

And yes, if you took ALL the markings off them, you CAN polish that to be shiny.... And I bet that some dang good too! (Now theres a thought!) A Dremel could really POLISH them up nice........ with a cotton wheel! -High speed, bright finish, faster the better......BE SURE to wear eye protection doing this, it will spatter you with the polishing compound!!!!!

Hey John. Yeah it was soley the shape. Just wouldn't fit.

I did manage to cut another fender well out, removed the protective coating with steel wool, sanded it down using the typical 3200grit -12000 grit sanding pads and polished it up.

I have Doobie to be thankful to for pointing me in the right direction with this. Thanks Dave! :D Sometimes the very basics are simply overlooked. Had the winning lottery ticket in my hand the whole time and didn't cash it in. lol

I think I'm going to like this ALOT better:

Then I cleaned up the hood emblems, painted the low lying areas and shot a coat of gloss clear over each one.

Thanks Dave. I managed to get them on the hood and work on the inner fender wells yesterday. I also got my replacement bumper in from Revell, got the "Demon 3" decal applied onto it. and dipped the bumper into Future after the decal dried and laid it off to the side. Didn't do any work to it this morning as we're still getting ready for my brother and his family to come down to visit us. I may feel a little more spry tomorrow morning about working on it.

John: No that's kit chrome. I painted the detail areas, touched up the sprue attachment points with chrome silver and shot two coats of gloss clear over them. Thanks bud.Yes

JC: Thanks for the encouragement and checkin' in! :D

Wayne: I appreciate the good word and think that you are the one that does insane work. Cool

Thanks John!

Not much of an update here as I've been getting ready for the Thanksgiving holiday. I tore the linoleum flooring up from my spare bathroom and prepared the floor for tile so that's taken a lot of my focus and time but I did manage to get the fire extinguisher installed, hood emblems on and the fuel tank re-installed after chopping a good 1/4" out of its length for the fire extinguisher to fit. Going to have to re-adhere the passenger side door as it popped out a little at the bottom. No worries. I'll be back on it after the holidays. Speaking of which. Happy Thanksgiving to all of you who celebrate it!!!

If you blow the first image up and look really close you can see the flames. It's a subtle effect that looks great under light.
