I have a '59 Pontiac Bonneville coming to the bench very soon & I'm blocking on a color scheme. Usually, I just look at a body style & get a feel for a good color, but this one is stumping me. I have it narrowed down to a couple of options & I'm just interested what people think. I do know I'm going 2-tone & I was originally going to go with either an off white or black body with a pale gold for the top, between the fins & the panel around the tail lights, with possible red wheels & a white & red interior with gold accents. Today I was going over color chips & ran across a pair of colors I really thought would look good as well. A medium metallic gray body with coral accents. Not sure about the interior color with that one, but probably gray & coral with possibly white, silver or black accents. What do you all think? <_< Steve

For that year of a car, you have picked good colors.. About 10 years down the line, red seemed to work well. I like the interior colors. Which ever ones you use for the interior, I think black accent would be stunning. Best of luck, Steve.

Thanks Mike. I usually try to stay away from too much red. Although I like red, & I've never seen a car that didn't look good in it, I like to try & use a little more unusual combinations. Helps keep my interest! :) A huge part of the build for me is coming up with a color that really grabs me. I think either of these combos would fit the bill, but I'm just undecided. I thought black would really show off all of that chrome trim, but I'm more partial to white. Either one would look good with the pale gold. On the other hand, for 50s cars, I just love coral! But I don't want to over do it. I already have several examples of variations of that color in my collection. But not one with metallic gray. Steve

I think you just answered your own question.

A medium metallic gray body with coral accent would look great Steve in my opinion....

Not so sure about the red wheels,,but otherwise I think this option would look pretty good.

I just picked up a 59 Bonneville ( mine is a convertible though ) so I am gonng keep any on any color options that may come this way

That tri tone interior would be tough

I also just picked up a builtup 1960 Bonnie vert thats all silver with red interior that I may just leave as is

The red wheels were one of those kind of quirky 50s things that I thought I'd consider. I've seen some odd, but actually kind on neat looking combos on these old cars. Examples; a '60 Plymouth Fury in yellow with a red interior? Another I've seen that kind of raised my eyebrows was a dark blue '57 Olds with red wheels. Anyway, I just thought red would fit with either white or gold, why not with both? :P Adding red for the interior would blend it together. Looks like the consensus so far is gray & coral anyway. We'll see if there's any more input. Steve

The colors you have picked look like some of the O.E.M. colors from '57 and '58 Pontiacs. Are you doing a Showroom, Day Two, or a Simi Custom ? Full wheel covers or "Dog Dishes" ? If you are going for a Factory look you might think about either black rims with wide whites or use one of the body colors. Look forward to seeing what you do with this.

It'll be a stock build with "close" to factory colors. :) If I use the gray & coral the actual colors I'm using are 1959 Dodge "Coral" & 1957 Ford "Gunmetal Gray". But Pontiac had similar colors in '59 called "silver Mist Gray" & "Sunrise Coral". If I use those colors, I'll be doing the wheels in coral. Steve
