Yes I'm that old and remember when that kit first came out. I was a great kit in those days and it would look good in my "stash" as well. Would I build it? I did back then, now maybe I'd just keep it for nostalgia sake? Of course all kits were made to be built, so it's a tough call. I have an AMT '59 Lincoln Continental Convertible kit in my display case, as back in the day it was my very first one-piece body kit. No, I didn't keep it all these years but found another on EVIL-bay to put in my case.

Well... I'm THAT old and I sure do remember. The "Forty Ford" was my second model kit purchase back in 1959. It cost a grand total of $1.49! If I had only known they'd be worth $150.00 in 2015!

Yeah... I'm that old too and yes, I built that kit way back when too. I'd definitely build the kit, but I'd save that nostalgic box art... Great memories.

Yeah, I'm that old too. ^_^ But I went for one of these instead. Monogram%2085-0544%20LongJohn.JPG cause it was motorized. :o and it had "Two colors plastic" AND a "Dummy V-8 engine"

The AMT '40 Ford is possibly my favorite kit of all time (depends on what day it is!) But, yes, I'd build it. Just picked up one of them in that box, molded in black. Body, fenders, and a number of other bits had been brush painted Testors Metallic Blue before the original owner gave up. I stripped the paint and now it looks almost like new. Was $25 including shipping ("Buy It Now" on eBay) My guess is it's a little more hard-to-find in Oz.

That issue of the kit has parts that were gone from subsequent issues of the kit starting in the mid-1960s. Including the short lake pipes, custom wheelcovers and stock valve covers for the Buick engine. The early issues are easier to build since the molds were newer. There is less flash and better fit, particularly at the hood and cowl.

Here's another early issue, this one molded in ivory plastic, and the same model after completion.

Nice build John. I remember guys runnin' without hoods when i was in high school, early sixties in Tucson. B) Stray, with so many reissues of that kit still available I'd keep it as is ( a piece of history) and not build it. ;)

I suppose there's a lot of us that bought that kit when it first came out. Sure is nice to see the old "box art". I would probably not build it,as there a lot of others to choose from. Just think of (if original sealed) the lovely smell of ancient styrene when the box gets opened!

Yes, I'm that old old old, too. Nice to know I'm in good company...

That was my first 'real' model kit. I got for my 9th birthday. My oldest brother built it for me,and I 'rebuilt' it later as subsequent glue bombs. nice kit, molded in black. I have one of those boxes in my collection, too.

That things been re-issued a number of times. Just get a different one. I know they changed the decals, but hey. <_<

Here's mine from the mid 80's release.

Not used, complete Pontiac engine with exhaust, drag decals, extra set of tires, two extra sets of wheels, roll bar, custom bumpers, etc. AMT 3-n-1 kits are a trove of extra parts.

Count me in as well. One of the first AMT kits I ever had. Still my all time favorite, just love that box art. As mentioned above, with all the reissues out there it would be tough for me to build a mint original.

I bought this original issue built up cheap not long ago...

......and using some original parts and decals I had in my stash I rebuilt it keeping the original vibe and display it with an original box. Had a ball with it.

Yes I am that old. 70 in January of this year. I built this model as a teen and still remember it well. As in the 1:1 world of pre world war 2 vehicles, I believe that certain vehicles should be preserved as a testimonial to the era of their conception. To build it, especially since there have been so many releases, would destruction of a part of history.

If I had a buck and a half , yeah, I'd buy it and yes, I'd build it too ! Of course I'm old enough to remember this kit along with the art work . I'm olderen dirt !

I had one also , in grey plastic like the one on the bay...also had the sedan in a light blue plastic. Here's a pic of an old instruction sheet from the coupe check out the part that states: Assembly and Disassembly ...

hehehe... It's not about age, it's all about experience! Man you guys must have seen some great stuff come and go.

And yeah, there is a lot of stuff that is less common over here in Oz I guess. If you click that link and take a scroll through some of the other items that ebay shop has there is a few more old kits and even a detail set for the 1/8 big T hotrod.

I think it is downright awesome that some of the stuff you guys have built many years ago are still around, and you have bits and pieces laying around in your stashes. When I stopped building I went through a heap of my boxes and gathered all the parts together. I have one full box of tyres, one of wheel, another with engines and parts, and another with interior/sundry. There is another box with tear downs and chassis stuff as well. I have kept them even though I hadn't built for near 20 years, and rummaging through looking for stuff to use is a great thing. I can only imagine what you guys have stored away for that 'rainy day'.

I'll take one of each please Greg.

I did have the blue amt version hears ago. I remember chopping it within an inch of its life and doing a dry lakes kind of look to the roof, but built it as a leadsled.

I haven't the slightest idea what happened to it since though!

Here's my latest one I built a few years back. Very traditional. I like the sedan ad the delivery, too.
